I got my original EMT cert in Michigan then not long after moved to Indiana. My cert in MI was a higher lever (specialist there, advanced in IN) but in order to start my new job as just a basic I had to retake both the written and practical state tests.
Then I wanted to be Advanced since it paid more and I was a Spec. up north anyway. Forget about it. Would have had to retake the classes then the tests. Didn't make any sense to me at all.

KRC: Yup, no doubt about it. Life would be easier if all the states were national registry. My NREMT expired last spring--thought I wouldn't need it again, a fool, I--but I'm still alive in PA. Of course the process here takes so long that there's no way I'll still be current when they finish with their stupid background checks and such, so I have to either take a goddam class again--this after teaching them for years--or find some way to recert my NREMT in another state. Like I was okay to do patient care in thirty-five states but now that I've moved to Oregon I'm a goddam serial killer.

I'm not sure I'd call it a scam. It's just become so bureaucratic and full of worthless paperwork (the subject of this thread) that providing for those in need has become as political as any part of providing medical therapy.
