Putting all other anti-American things associated with Deplorables aside for a moment (white supremacism, attacking women & minority rights etc.), the fact is that we live amongst those who supported overturning the results of a fair election - and still side with the individuals who spearheaded those efforts, despite their obvious wrongdoings and clearly-exposed lies.

This is very serious. Another place, time, era under similar circumstances, and you'd be going at your neighbor with a pickaxe for these transgressions.

No false-equivalency spin is good enough to prove "the other side does it too". So, this traitorous behavior is very much one-sided as of today, no matter how incredibly loudly they disagree. (They need to - they have no other choice.)

Violence is not the answer, but there still needs to be an answer. Taking a breath and looking at the reality from 30k feet downward, how do you co-exist with these individuals?

dunno, but from ground-level and given where i live it's a case of distance: good fences and a return to general civility amongst neighbours, a promotion of modern-day thinking re civil/human/gender/everything else rights & equality, not discussing politics, and (now we know who they are) interacting with them only on a sliding scale basis of necessity.

from higher up, i'd say trying to make sure religion (and all those who warp it for their own means) are once again placed on the back burner of 'you worship freely as you wish, but keep it personal & don't inflict it on others'... promote science over fiction and fantasy, and hold our elected officials (even non-elected) truly accountable for any corruption; embrace the things we share as humans and make those more important to us than the things that make us different as individuals. education is always the battleground.

We have plenty of pending cases right now to make a difference, thanks to courageous prosecutors like Fani Willis. Once the leaders of the anti-American MAGA movement are held accountable for their acts, it will change the tune of other cult followers who think they can make threats or violate the law in any way.

Deplorables tend to be bullies. Standing up to bullies is important.

As for them being assholes without crossing the red lines of the law, that will diminish with a much more progressive generation coming on line. Fortunately, the right hasn't gone that far down the path to atrocity here. Although they may fantasize about a violent insurrection, they're too weak to pull one off, and individual incidents of stochastic terrorism are best dealt with in the criminal justice system.

What does need to happen is a recognition in the media that this isn't a "both sides" problem--the Republican party has been captured by would-be fascists who are funded and encouraged by foreign powers. I totally agree. Some major media outlets are still doing this, thinking they need to have talking heads for "both sides" of issues that are no longer appropriate for that format. They do this to sell copy, which violates the principles of responsible journalism.

Insurrection, denial of human rights, and racketeering are not issues for which you provide equal coverage to right wing extremists on a continuing basis.

My plan...forces the children to play together or play elsewhere. Solutions implemented within 5 years. Women have their rights back. Gays have their rights back. Balanced budget. Healthcare system changes. Education changes. Policing changes. On and on.
