I'm not real big on protective gear when I'm riding. I only wear my helmet while I'm foxhunting, because they won't let me ride otherwise. I've always thought these vests were just silly, and that they'd probably interfere with my movement.

I came off my horse last night, and hit the ground harder than I ever have before. Apparently nothing is broken, because I can almost walk today, but oh my god, I thought for a few minutes that I wasn't ever going to get up off the ground. I couldn't feel my legs, my head hit the ground so hard that I still have a headache. I guess it's a good thing I was riding at leavenworth with the hunt, so I did have on a helmet. I didn't miss landing on the pavement by more than 6 inches.

Is thinking about wearing all this protective gear a sign that I'm getting old?

I must admit though, that when I did get off the ground and back on my horse, I felt worse for her than I did for myself. I've never come off of her before, and I think me suddenly not being on her scared the shit out of her.

Honey, how sexy is a full body cast?
I am just glad you aren't hurt seriously!

Whats sexy is the person, not the clothing. Don't be concerned about your appearance, wear the gear. You could have lost your life as you know, it in a mere second, so I am extremely happy that you are OK. :rose:

I dunno, wouldn't that be like the ultimate bondage experience? ;)

I'm pretty sure I'm not hurt seriously. Some road rash on my arm, a headache, and my back hurts like hell. As long as I don't bend over, lift up my kid, try to stand up very quickly, or roll over in bed, I don't even scream all that often. What I wouldn't give for health insurance and some Darvon today. :)

Its not a sign you're getting old. Protective gear is a good idea at any age. *smile*

I think I'll stick to the vibrating horsie ride outside of K Marts. A girl can have a lot of fun for a few quarters.;)

ouch that sounds awful im glad your ok well that your ok enough to be typing today ... hopefully you'll be completely ok soon

i'd go for the body protection merely beacuse i wouldnt want anything bad to happen to you :)

Pagan,

I hope you're feeling better.....take it Easy and have everyone cater to your whims today :)

they won't let my daughters on the horses without a vest and helmet....

Both of my daughters have taken a fall....7 & 5 yrs old.....nothing too bad but they hit the ground...and got back up...I'm glad they had the protection....better to be safe than sorry

I'm fairly certain there will be no catering to my whims, but I'll survive.

I make both my kids were helmets before they get on. They were helmets, knee pads and elbow bads before they get on their bikes. I just never think about gear like that for me. I suppose though, if $150 would have saved me the ouchiness I'm feeling today, it would have been well spent.

Having riden in the past, I can honestly say you can never have too much protection. I watched as a friend got thrown from his horse which broke his collar bone, had he been wearing such protective clothing he might have gotten away with it.

This reminds me of the motorbike debate about crash helmets, you'd be a fool not to use such things.
