The safety of my state and city, I actually find to be fairly irrelevant. That is because one's behaviors/lifestyle are far more predictive in determining the likelihood of being the victim of a crime. For example, I do not drink alcohol. It's just not something I like spending my money on, as meth is a bit pricey. (Actually, booze don't play well with atypical antipsychotics). If you never find yourself around alcohol, your chances of dying via violence drop precipitously. That and my non-trivial collection of firea..I mean, um...."fishing poles" along with my numerous and redundant low- and high- tech safety measures not due to my location but to my philosophical outlook...I ain't worried. Someone trying to gain entrance into my property against my knowledge or will? Should be VERY worried. That lesson has been delivered, once, to two miscreants (had one of them sobbing).

Many suburban neighborhoods here have a created long term danger, the snout houses, snout duplexes, and snout condos, the newer homes with garages out front and the living spaces much farther back. This type sells in huge numbers as something that seems practical, but the street is much less visible from the living spaces. As the snout house neighborhoods inevitably decline in value, crime may rapidly increase on those streets. Snout houses are rare in my neighborhood because this is an older and lower class suburb. The higher classes may be coming back here as their newer and more expensive neighborhoods become too dangerous, or all the suburbs may depopulate at approximately the same rate. Another danger here is huge debt to buy a house that loses value.
