And how safe do you feel?
What's making you feel unsafe?

I picked three categories. Murders per capita, RTA deaths per capita, and life expectancy in the most recent 12 months of available data.
If you don't want to trawl, AI can search for you.

And earthquakes, tornadoes, fires, floods, etc.

I don't worry about any of those here. This area is safe enough that I don't bother with stats.

I feel safe.
There are certainly outliers such as terrorism, nuclear proliferation, and power hungry, demented authoritarians and billionaires to consider, but statistically, I live in one of the safest periods of mankind regarding overall health access, food security, and crime.

I dunno, shot in the dark, I would say that the greatest threat is misinformation and fear mongering propaganda generated in the US by the likes of Fox News and in the UK by the likes of the Daily Mail.

Holy crap! I guess it's obvious why these potentially perilous events never crossed my mind. But yeah, glaring ommission now I think about it. Plus dangerous animals and diseases which I never had reason to consider.

That's a good reminder that the world is a big place.

I'm not concerned with the numbers because as we're seeing DC (and in the UK over the hatchet wielding Scottish girl case) the numbers are being fudged by agenda driven politicians and cowardly police.

What I can say is that I regularly work in places most of you won't go. This isn't a statement of my purported bravery, just that I actually go places which aren't on the nicer side of town. What I'm seeing is the population has diminished by quite a bit. Parking used to be nonexistent, I can now park at my destinations. Building managers seem to be getting ahead of the constant destruction of their properties too; fences are repaired and not torn down again the next week, apartments are getting painted, grass is actually starting to grow in yards and greenspaces again.

I attribute a reduced population density to this change although I'm fairly certain most of you don't want to go there because these places still aren't safe.

Strangely, this is also something I've seen before. Approximately 4 1/2 years ago these same changes began taking place and my slice of the planet seemed to be looking up.

I'm sure you can do the math.

Anywhere is safer than the US. Especially for underage kids, in America it's okay to fuck them, they elected and defend a known predator.

We have a sexual predator and convicted felon in charge. Not sure it can get less safe than that.

That's why I chose those three areas. A homicide is a homicide, roadkill is roadkill, life expectancy is life expectancy. They seemed like the least open to fudging or differences in definition, unlike something like covid deaths.

Except they're not.

DC's manipulation of the data is being exposed whereby they downgraded things like attempted murder to minor assault or just didn't report it at all. The UK has "no go zones." Places where whatever crimes occur is never reported.

Under those conditions whatever data you get is falsified and/or grossly inaccurate regardless of the categories you choose. You cannot get a real picture unless you go there yourself.

Something I don't recommend for those who aren't either well prepared or those who are suicidal and foolish.

What troubles you?
He has these recurring dreams that a group of Arabs are going to throw him off of a roof.

Anyway, back on topic: Down here in Texas, life is pretty good....for white males. Women and non-whites? Not so much (white males in government have control issues).

Thanks to the collective ignorance in America with regard to climate change, I'm more worried about flooding. When I first moved to Texas, we'd see one or two flash floods a year. I think we've had six flash floods since the start of the year.

Show your work, short bus boy.

We really don't. We have high crime, high poverty areas, but they are all serviced by the emergency services. It's a widely reported myth.

We have a lot of real problems in this country, but that's not one of them.

Somehow I'm inclined to think your widely reported myth isn't as mythical as you want me to believe. Mostly because it's being reported through the press in a very progressive EU and not just here in conservative circles.

It's also not only confined to the UK.

No, it's most definitely a myth. Some politician came up with the claim, scaremongering for votes (as politicians do) and it was widely reported. The subsequent conversations with local residents and police officers, explaining why the claim is ridiculous, weren't headline material.

I'm sure you get that there too. The full front page lie will get an inch of redaction and apology hidden in the back next week.
