It was during a recent month-long stint in Tokyo and Shanghai, while working like a dog and with no sexual outlet, that I began to dream with an intensity that I haven't in years. Every third night I'd experience richly textured hallucinations, many of them erotic, some even depraved, and if I remembered enough of them when I woke up, I'd scribble notes in a pad I set by the bed for the purpose. Though there were surreal elements, I was struck by the strength and internal consistency of the narratives as well as the profusion of detail. Sometimes I'd write for thirty or forty minutes after awakening, just trying to get it all down before I forgot.
I don't normally have a lot of erotic dreams, and when I do, they rarely work in my favor. Typically, the seemingly inevitable sex act is somehow canceled, or postponed, or elided, as though my internal editor is performing a reality-check. But these dreams had no such limits. I've never experienced anything like it.
First: what about you?
* How often do you dream of sex? How explicitly?
* Do you have orgasms in your dreams?
* Are there any patterns to them? Do you often dream of the same people, the same acts, the same situations? How do they correlate to the things that you love or fear about sex?
Second: I've taken a look at my notes and I'd like to flesh them out into something readable. I've earmarked twelve erotic dreams that I want to write up into a short collection. I'd like to correspond with someone as part of the process of doing so, trading dreams and fantasies and discussing what they say about us and our lives. If you're a woman with a literary bent and a rich fantasy life, an adventurous real life, or sex-charged dreams that you want to share, PM me. Let's talk!
