How Much Violence Appeals To You?

Looking at my story scores for 2 years, my highest rated stories are very violent tho any old kind of violence wont do it. An ax murder trips triggers, hanging doesn't, burning someone in a barrel of kerosene works, a choke hold doesn't.

The perfessers agree that raw violence works best. Hollywood agrees.

What do you think?

I'm not a fan of violence unless it is fully justfied.

For instance, Robocop or the original Total Recall.

As a stern warning, fine. In real life? Zero. El zilcho. Hurting people is wrong, but sometimes to preserve the peace of others, like detaining a criminal or shooting a murderer.

Realistically, violence will always exist, but when used in defense of others without malice aforethought, to protect the innocent, I'm all for it.

It has to fit. If it works into the story I am fine with a high level of violence as long as its believable.

But if its gratuitous and over the top, then it has no appeal. Its like sex, its hot if there is a reason, but "hey, baby, let's do it" bores me.
