How many views per vote?

I have two stories here on Lit at the moment (that'll change eventually). Anyway, even though they have about 2000 views between them, they only have three votes, total.

Now, I'm not complaining, but I was wondering what the average vote to view ratio is. (It occurred to me that the reason there are so few votes is that the stories are posted in Non-Erotic and Novels and Novellas, both of which are among the least popular categories.)

My two (about to be three) stories have 10k views with 24 votes and 6k views with 5 votes so your ratio seems about the same.

I read a lot of stories but never vote, because I don't know what the vote means. Is it technical excellence or personal pleasure? I would hate to give a five to a badly written good idea, or to a beautifully written but boring tale. The votes received are almost rare enough to be able to identify them one at a time and they all seem to be 1, 4 or 5. I give up!

There is no real correlation between views and votes. Your supposition about how the category affects voting is probably correct, however unless a story is either very good or very bad, it won't generate very many votes or comments -- you have to raise some emotional response to get votes.

Unfortunately, 90% of the stories here don't stand out from the crowd enough to generate a lot of votes -- a ratio of 1000:1 (views to votes) seems to be a bit better than average for all categories. None of my stories have done quite that well, although one is in the top 10 in it's category.

interesting, never thought of working out averages for the impossibly unreliable world of voting.

but it seemed like an agreeable displacement activity to kill some time...

i have 7 stories and the average number of views that generate a vote is 178.

it seems that certain categories are more read that others. my group sex story has a lot of views but the fetish and bdsm don't, but the ratings are high.

to my surprise the mature story is the most read. never would have figured that, but then it is a wide spectrum.

humble opinion on votes

Any of us who write are interested in generating votes. A least to some degree. So we try to find the pattern.

I also have given the read to vote ratio some thought, Talking about voters among readers. I think the younger crowd among our viewers vote the most often.

Looking at top voted stories, those that deal with high school and college age characters are voted on the most and get the most reads and the most votes. And among those, the hotter, the better.

That is why incest does so well. In incest, at least one of the protagonists is young, sometimes very young and just barely legal age.

There are exceptions to point to, of course.

Just a humble opinion based on casual research.

narrowing it down

I looked again at votes of 1000 or greater, whether in incest, mature, or other categories.

The main character is close to 18 years old in high proportional voting.

Just thought my comment might be of interest.

A good example of an exception is The Private Party, dealing with married couples.

Of course to get high votes, the story has to be top quality as well.

I think age may have something to do with it, but I also think that it depends on category. For example, the story I have in the Gay Male section has only generated just over 11,000 views - yet has over 60 votes. In comparison, my non-consent story has over 30,000 views but only 90 votes.

I've also discovered that with the Gay Male story, I receive a WHOLE lot more feedback - all positive with the exception of one - than with any other story I've written so far. The response has been so good, that I'm actually considering writing more to this category. It might be that there are so few stories written to this category that when new stuff appears the audience is more receptive and generous, I don't know. But it truly surprised me.

That could also lead to the idea that, with so many stories in, say, Incest, Erotic Couples, First Time that people take a bit for granted? I truly think the reason I did so well in Gay Male is more due to the idea that there are so few stories submitted to this category than any true talent on my part.

Just some thoughts to consider.
