I think I have a problem with focus and follow through. I currently have 15 stories/chapters to started stories that I've written at least a page or two for but haven't finished yet. I also have one story I consider "abandoned".

So am I normal, or weird? How many unfinished stories do you have? (Count anything you've written more than a paragraph for, don't count it if you've sent it to an editor or are in final proofreading)

You're not alone in the lack of follow through. I have dozens of unfinshed stories tucked away in CD's and flash drives that are holding their breath for my return.

Ha, poor things.

The way it's going, it will be forever before I get back to them.

Oh good, "dozens" makes my total seem small.
I've noticed for every one I finish I start at least two more though.

Stored with the "Will get back to...some day...maybe...possibly..." label: a handful.

Totally abandoned: More than I dare to count.

Currently I have 2 unifinished stories that i plan to finish, no abandoned stories and a novel that needs a serious edit *L*

5 unfinished stories, one is almost done but needs editing. The others I hope to get to one of these days.

One novel in progress, one story that's taking a while to materialise. I'm very good at starting things, but not so good at finishing them. I used to have about a dozen or so on the go, but then I discovered that the number I completed hit an all time low. I'm trying to make myself finish one story before starting the next, but it's difficult. I need a firm hand :p

I had the problem.

I trained myself to finish.

Sincerely,
ElSol

I daren't count them

I have over one hundred stories here.

I know I have at least half that number unfinished. I'm worried that the unfinished total might be more than the hundred.

Couple dozen, perhaps, in various stages. I can't force myself to consider any of them totally "abandoned" (else I'd just DELETE them).

About the same as me, but my total includes three unfinished novels. I really must get writing again . . .

I go through spirts. I can sit and write for hours, but there are some days I dont even want to look at them seeing them as work. When they are fun to write, thats when I write.

Many of my stories have open endings so in a sense they are chapters I guess. I can leave them stand on their own or add more to make it longer. Depends on how much the story means to me.

1 novel in progress, drafting stage

1 completed novel that needs to be edited and peddled

1 unfinished story a couple of people are begging me to edit and finish, but I seriously doubt will ever happen

lots of little story beginnings that didn't work out for whatever reason and I abandoned them. I keep them around just in case I ever want to rip them off for ideas someday.

Let's seeeeee.... hmmmmmm....

1 story basically complete, just needs editing.

1 story almost complete.... well, maybe 70% complete.... maybe a little less...

5 or 6 in various stages of abandonment

1 NANO novel about 25% done. (Maybe I'll save it for next year  )

2 unfinished stories, one I want to finish, but can't find the enthusiasm to finish, the other will probably sit forever because the last time I looked at it, I was totally disgusted with it. Just can't bring myself to delete it though.

2 others outlined, but no writing done.

My muses abonded me about six months ago and haven't even sent a postcard to let me know they've found work elsewhere.

Do people actually finish stories?

Actually, i just finished one - but it was a 350 word vignette only. Nothing of any real length has ever been finished by me.

I have 83 on my computer needing work. Most will never see the light of day. I tend to write novels and if it's not working out, I stop after a chapter or two.

Does anyone need a story idea? LOL

83 is pretty impressive. I haven't really tried to write novels, at least not since I graduated college.
Got plenty of story ideas of my own, thanks ;)

I have about three unfinished stories and another three ideas for new stories.

I want to finish the stories, but I never seem to manage. Either too tired, too lazy or no inspiration at all. Yes, I'm bad. :(

I had 38 on last count. Not all are erotica though. I need inspiration. I think part of the problem is that i have sex these days, lol. When i'm not, my imagination goes into hyperdrive.

*bump*

I voted, but don't have anything to add to the conversation. Just moving the thread to the top of the page.

Carry on...

Five for me, but after reading this thread, maybe I shouldn't feel so bad.

[start rant]

It started out as a simple project a few months ago, I even outlined the fucking thing for the first time in ages. Now it's turned into a five-chapter monster, spanning four or five genres. (What the fuck's up with that? Where did THAT come from?)

Now I find myself re-writing major segments four and five times, deciding whether to turn this whole blasted, fucking mutant into four or five meaty vignettes, or to consolidate it into a novelette. Another fucking decision.

There are now parts—surprisingly?—that now ooze with BDSM and NonConsent/Reluctance

Fucking story. This is too much like work. Aren't we supposed to do this because it's . . . it's fun?

[end rant]
