So being still slightly new here, I was wondering what's the average thread count people take at one time.

I think it definitely depends on how much free time one has, how much time does he/she need to work up a post and so on...

More than I should. Less than I have before.

I came here Swearing up and down till I was blue in the face, that I would have 2.

I have 6.

But it is entirely dependent on free time.

At the moment I have 7 but they are all fairly slow moving...mainly due to me

I have had more in the past, and far fewer on occasion too. I don't think I could handle too many more, just because I like to put in a decent amount of time and effort into my posts and free time is a very rare thing these days!

Don't get me wrong though, I love writing and would have as many threads as my little brain could keep track of if I could!!

I have 16 active, and am still working on revamping some.

Oh too bad, I was planning something similar, but greed gets the best of you and you end up taking more threads than you can handle...

Se7en threads? Oh you honor my namesake just like I do :D

And yes I agree, one would do way more threads if there was time for that, but sadly there isn't

Wow, I have no idea how you keep up with all that...

And its kind of annoying to have to quote every reply separately, is there a way to quote more than one person at once?

Next to the quote button is the multi quote button. This button lets you quote multiple people.

yes, you can also copy and paste.

Its not that difficult, my characters are my passions. As is my writing.

I have eight. One of them is on hold until my co-writer can take time away from his RW demands. I don't have a limit although I do slow down when the RW demands I attend it. Luckily enough, I have co-writers who are not impatient and are very understanding.

I only have 3 right now, with one more in the works. I think that's about all I can handle for now, 4.

No more. No less.

We'll see though. RL is demanding at certain times and I do like to think about my responses before just blurting them out.

Your poll choices were interesting Se7en :)

Just one; I like to focus my efforts.

I like to focus my efforts no matter how few or many I have.

Two to three; just enough to keep me occupied.

How well they occupy me is dependent on the amounts of free world time I have which varies greatly. It is not dependent on the number of the threads I have.

Four to Seven; I like a variety of stories, characters and partners.

This is the amount I would aim for but it has absolutely nothing to do with my requiring variety of stories or characters and even even less so with needing a variety of partners. If the pairing is perfect the story simply flows.

Seven to Ten; keep them coming, I love to write and I have the time.
More than Ten; Heck I have too much free time, sue me!!!

Your last two choices are were my story load falls simply because I love to write even though sometimes I do not have the time nor the mindset to do so.

I am a slow poster it takes me time to craft my responses I am supremely lucky in my choice of writing partners in that they are very supportive of me.

Happily if I have too many *blushes* my partners wouldn't think to sue me...well at least they haven't so far! :rose::rose::rose:

Honestly, it depends on how often I want to update, and how often my partners update. When I was working at my favored pace, I had one thread that was updated pretty much daily, another that was updating weekly, another that was updating at least a couple of times a week, and two threads that were dragging on at a much slower. I could probably only carry 4 threads, tops, if I were updating regularly, but most of those weren't extremely active.

It seems to me that most good writers I have had the pleasure to write with or talk to seem to share being 'not impatient'.

However, its interesting that you said 'not impatient' as opposed to 'patient'. Its like saying deep inside they want to jump you for being late, but they can keep their virtual violent tendencies in check, hence 'not impatient' whereas being patient they wouldn't have that problem at all :)

Its good that you know how many threads you can handle exactly.

Thank you, I would have to say you are quite smart and have a good ability to twist words :)

Just one; I like to focus my efforts.

In this case I meant wanting just the one thread to give it your full attention, that's not to say that people who have more than one thread don't give their threads enough attention. It comes down to time and the fact that some people prefer to process just one story in their mind.

Two to three; just enough to keep me occupied.

How well they occupy me is dependent on the amounts of free world time I have which varies greatly. It is not dependent on the number of the threads I have.

Again, the meaning here is if you have enough time for two to three threads, you don't take on ten because in that case replies will have to wait.

Four to Seven; I like a variety of stories, characters and partners.

Are you going to tell me you have seven identical threads with the same story, characters and partners?

If you have two or three threads then its only two or three different stories, but some people want a lot more than that, and that's impossible without many threads. This is the case for me, I have very diverse tastes and so even ten threads would not cover all the stories I want to try.

Seven to Ten; keep them coming, I love to write and I have the time.
More than Ten; Heck I have too much free time, sue me!!!

Same here, I usually bite more than I can chew :(

'Sue me' here refers to people suing you because you have too much free time not because you take long to reply, which is actually another reason to sue somebody :)

Thanks to everyone for their replies and votes so far, but it seems some people didn't vote yet, come on people, a poll loses its meaning without votes

Yeah one active thread that gets a reply daily takes much more time than one that only gets visited once every week or two.

I usually say what I mean when I do speak. I dislike people who play games by twisting words I am simply not one of them.

I was just trying to answer truthfully, I do have a headache and perhaps wasn't as clear as I could have been.

*giggles* I do not have seven identical threads.

In the end the amount of threads one juggles its entirely up to the individual.

*grins* if I get lynched by my co-writers for my slow posting it will be in private thank goodness. :rose:

Anyway, happy writing it was nice meeting you...:)

Don't worry I meant 'twisting words' in a good way :)

Oh a headache? Poor you, here is something to help with that :rose:

Too bad it would be in private, I would have wanted to watch the sky falling

Happy writing, and a pleasure to meet you as well :)

I've had as many as 8 on Lit at one time and 2-3 by email. Then I got to be popular enough that people wanted to chat on Yahoo. That greatly reduced the time I have for writing responses to stories. Between chatting, interacting in the lounges, writing stories, and real life commitments, I only get to manage 2-3 on Lit at best, and even those are responded to maybe weekly. In addition, 2 by email with a very special person to me, my Sasha. She is the only person I have even done more than one story with, especially concurrently.

Sometimes I get the urge to write more, but I know that within a couple days, life could be pressing me again to where I had no time to fulfill that urge.

Mostly though, it's the chats that limit my time. I'm a poor multi tasker, and having two to four chats going on just about every evening makes it very hard to do anything else. It's a different way of interacting with people, and I don't mean to sound like I'm complaining about it. Not at all. It's just the reason why I don't get as much else done as I used to.

Oh I totally get you, when I used to actively chat with friends, time would fly and absolutely nothing could be accomplished when many chat windows are open. I kinda dropped that habit lately.

I need to run off but *chuckle* you read too much into my words, Se7en. I write words.... "quirky" sometimes. :rose:

I have..... 7? I believe?

Honestly, I just hit subscribe to them... If it shows up with a new reply, I go peek.

Some are faster than others, (NOT saying I grumble on slow replies *jabs a certain someone*), so the full "brunt" of "too many" doesn't effect me. I'm a bit of a slow replier myself sometimes, but enjoy all my stories. I do realize anything over 10 is probably stretching thin on the mental overload, so I try to avoid it.
Try.
Was up to 15 at one point.

Got my chars confused.

Fifteen is too many. I'd never be able to keep up with that. I sometimes worry that I'm writing the same characters repeatedly when I have about 7 threads.
