How many really severe sunburns have you had in your life?

I've only had one sunburn in my life. Wasn't very severe, and not painful at all. I used aloe for the itching while it was peeling though.

What did you do to ease your pain?

Hopefully not enough to give me skin cancer. I sat in a walk in freezer until the pain froze.

a REALLY good remedy is (sounds stupid but works miracles,i swear to god): take natural yoghurt (full fat) and apply it liberally to the sunburnt skin. this will absorbe the heat, take the redness away and moisturize and replenish the skin.

during the night apply aloe vera lotion to give the skin the lost moisture back.

i know the yoghurt stuff sounds disgusting but it worked wonders everytime i had a sunburn. Also adding milk or cream to the bathwater helps.

hope you get better soon! :rose:

TOO MANY...

My worst involved 9 hours in the sun in Florida in august...wine coolers and an absense of sunscreen. I spent a day in the hospital after that and I still have scars..

Im so pale I glow in the dark!

Only one.

I took a gallon and half of beer.

Did nothing for the pain, but I didn't care.

True story,promise.

vinegar splashed on works and i have done the plain yogurt also.

laughter is good medicine so: a fellow goes to a little villiage in baha and after a bunch of drinks falls asleep and gets a terrible sunburn. the hotel doctor looks in on him at his request and tells him since they have very little modern medicine there is little he can do. as he leaves he gives the man a viagra tablet. the man asks if it will help the sunburn. the doctor says no but it will keep the sheets off of you when you sleep.

Just ONE...

after that I went out and bought SUNBLOCK!

ever hear of it...lol?
She's going to kill me...

What did I do to ease the pain? I just made it through a day at a time and prayed to God that each day would get better...

Safe to say..you never did that again...

Sunburn........ugh! Most uncomfortable and unattractive. The last one I had was at least 15 yrs ago......and it was a killer! Aloe vera and Advil......with a shot of tequila, might help.

You have my sympathies.

yeah...believe it or not I got that part about glowing in the dark...lol.
they make a 45!

I've never had one. I only leave the house completely covered from head to toe, UV goggles and a ski mask.

I'm whiter than Casper the ghost drinking a vanilla milkshake in the middle of winter.

and you've been blue ever since...

I've only had one really bad one. Living in Arizona, swimming every day.

I managed to get chicken pox and sunburn at the same time.

Ouch!

One really bad one. And to relieve the pain, I passed out on the bathroom floor. True story.

It was so bad, I had blisters. While taking a shower, days later, some of the skin peeled off in big clumps. Some of the blisters broke, and the skin pockets filled with water. Gross all the way. Didn't feel too good either.

IMO, aloe don't work for shit. Either Lanacane or something like it, or lots of moisturizer and just accept your pain.

I know but I find that 40 is good to prevent moon burn! I just hide during the daylight hours!

More than I can count

I'm like Kitte, I also glow in the dark I'm so pale. I know vinegar works, even tho its smells really bad. Another thing I've found that works is SeaBreeze dabbed on with cotton balls liberally, as often as feels good. It helps cool it down. Oh and lots of moisturizer.

I also never go out without using at least a spf 45 sunscreen although recently saw one with an spf of 70 if you can believe that. I had never seen anything like that before.

Once WAS enough! Way back when I was 18 years old. I still squirm remembering the pain (went out by pool on a very cloudy day with no lotion).

Drinking lots of water and taking lots of aspirin got me through it, and some soothing noxema or aloe cream when my legs got cool enough to touch.

Doesn't SeaBreeze have alcohol in it? Wouldn't that sting?

Maybe a dozen. There is really nothing you can do to ease the pain except stand in front of an air conditioner. Just about anything you put on it will eventually cause a lot of itching later on if you are not careful. I once burnt the top of my feet in St. Thomas (missed putting sunscreen on them) and applying aloe gel and vitamin e helped, but other times that only caused the skin to itch. Cold water helps - just removing heat helps a lot.

I prefer pale to tan most of the time. I see these young ladies that are always trying to tan themselves so much it looks unnatural. A light tan looks okay, but smooth creamy pale skin is much nicer.
