How many of you actually reply to the feedback you get?

And how do you handle it? Do you have a form thank you email or do you sit and write personal thank yous to every person who took the time to send you their thoughts on your work?

Then there are the ones who insist on replying to your thank you to their original email. What do you do there?

I currently have 89 emails sitting in my inbox from Lit readers. My fingers are rapidly developing typists cramp and I'm going cross eyed from staring at the screen.

What do you folks do?

If I had 89 items of feedback in less than six months from all my writings, here and everwhere else, I would go out and celebrate with a slap-up dinner.

Seriously, if there is an address, I always reply promptly.

For detailed comment there is a reasoned response; for routine stuff, like "Great; write more!" they get a form e-mail. "Thank you for replying" will only get an answer if there is meaningful content.

In the three weeks since my first story appeared at Lit, I've had 41 items of feedback from readers (now from three stories.) I try to respond to each one in a personal way, and not send back a standard form reply. Some of them I give a quick word of thanks, others I go into more detail; discussing points of the story, etc. Having said that, there's still a handful in my inbox, awaiting reply, which I intend to get round to asap.

I find if I don't reply to feedback immediately it does have a tendancy to just sit there and become a chore, like so many other things. My advice: get on top of it and stay on top of it.

So far all feedback messages I've gotten (20-something, mostly on my one story) have been pretty short and to the point, consisting basically of "Hi! I liked your stuff. You should post more." (and the occational anonymous "you suck, write more fucking")

Those 10 that were not anonymous were all very easy to reply to with a quick "Thank you" and some personal notes, if they pointed out something in particular. Not too heavy a chore.

I'd guess that might change once I get more stories posted. Tatelou's got it right. Reply in a heartbeat, and get it off the to-do list ASAP.

Exactly what the others said. I reply as soon as I see a feedback. Otherwise it just keeps nagging me until I reply to it. I guess I'm just too kind-hearted. :D

There was just one time I had a problem. That was when I had 12 feedback mails in one day. I still finished those first before going on to anything else.

I reply to each one with a personal reply. It's the least I can do for people who have given me feedback, however minimal.

I reply to everyone that has a return address. I try to make it personal and answer each with specifics from their mail. When my audios first went up I got 39 emails in one day and I replied to them all. The ones that I have trouble repling to are the ones that only tell me that they got off really hard or only ask for nude pics and say nothing about the story they read. Then I use a standard reply for them.

Wow - 41 on one story! Yeah, celebrate and answer them - you're developing quite a readership.

I respond to every feedback that provides an address and save the address in a group so when my next story is posted I can let them know. I think I need to do a better job on the next one, I haven't had half the response you got.

-FF (BTW - congrats)

I reply to all who send an e-mail...I try to personalize my replies. Once when I first started I screwed up and never sent a reply to hiddenself. I'm a perfectionist and it still eats at me...

feedback responses

Anyone that writes me more than a sentence gets a response...at least usually.

Sometimes péople who reply with one or two words get one back...just as a joke.

Most people ask the exact same question: `how can you like rape? that´s sick´and I have a special mini-essay saved on my computer that I send them in return.

People that respond to my responses sometimes get other responses, depending on how cool they seem. It usually ends after three or four, though, when I forget who the hell they are.

I think that anyone who takes the time to write me a little letter, a polite letter (since I changed my profile I don´t get the stupid ´fuck me senseless´emails anymore) deserves a reply. It´s only fair.

I reply to all the feed back I recive if the email addy is provided and the sender is not just requesti ng a personal fantasy or pictures.

I always reply to feedback. Even if it is just a "thanks but no thanks" to an explicit offer of all things sexual I tend to write a few lines saying thanks for the feedback and if they mention anything in particular i reply about that.

I don't get tons of feedback, but it is always nice when i get some. I reply ASAP. Not always straight away but as soon as possible anyway.

Always, if an address is supplied, and ASAP

I try to personalise a reply, but sometimes the wording tends to follow a pattern. If someone comments on a particular aspect I'll try to cover that in my reply.

Unfortunately, I don't get all that much...

You'll be getting more feedback, Tatelou, as I've only just found your stories!

Replies to feedback

I respond to almost all. Since most of the ones I get are rather bland but complimentary, I use a rather standard, "Thank you, glad you enjoyed it" sort of reply. If I get something that conveys some thought on the part of the reader, I'll write a bit more. I always answer as soon as I get them. I'd never do it if they piled up.

Ditto... unless they want to stick their tongue up my ass. Then I use a "FUCK OFF" form letter.

Why don't I ever get proposals like that?

/Ice - just a tiny bit jealous

I reply to all, mostly proportionately: as others have said, the one line compliments get one line acknowedgements. The rare, long and interesting respose detailing the person's involvement in the perversions depicted, gets a longer response, and who knows from there.

Hey, Pure. You've reminded me that I cannot find your stories via the author index, i.e., nothing under 'Pure'. Do you have another I.D. for your work?

but its SUCH a fine ass Jenny.....

but seriously. I reply . I just get very little feedback. I don't use a form. I do a quick " thanks" if the feedback is brief and general. Otherwise, I engage in dialogue.

I reply to feedback that has a reply address. Normally thanking them for taking the time to read and email me. Depending on the content of their feedback, I'll try to personalise the response. :)

Usually just a couple sentences along the line of thanks for sending me feedback, glad you liked it. If they make specific comments I'll reply to those.
