For the purpose of Lit Categories, it's three.
I'm not sure what I'd call "group sex" in practice. Is three people just a threesome? How much interswapping in a two couple foursome has to occur in order for it to be "groupsex" as opposed to mere "swapping"?
How many people does it take to make an orgy? Five? Six?
What if it's five straight guys and one woman? That sounds more like a gang-bang than an orgy.

My sister's ex boyfriend told me that more than four is an orgy. An orgy is definitely a group. I don't know if three is a group. I guess it's a group if the story comfortably fits into no other catagory.

I would say three. Two is a pair, or a couple, or a duet, or whatever. Same for music. Three is a group.

I agree that 3 = group sex for the purposes of categorizing erotica/porn. Personally, I don't enjoy group sex stories, but perhaps it's because I've never experienced group sex so don't have a reference framework. Hmmm, but then again I've never experienced gay male sex

I haven't experienced any of the sex that I have written about. All that I have done is missionary and cowgirl, and hell I don't even remember that. I've never been with a ghost, experienced incest, done it while working out, been with a tentacle monster (or been a tentacle monster), or had group sex, or hell, I've never done it doggy style. I think three is properly called a "crowd" rather than a group.
To qualify for "Group sex" tax benefits, you're required to have at least one person to take minutes, and ideally a secretary should be nominated, to take care of the finances, cum-stains, etc. Also An AGO (Annual General Orgy) has to be scheduled.
