How many have/would go to a sex therapist?

Maybe because you feel outside the square when it comes to sexuality and would like someone to chat to it about. Or if you and your partner are not functionally sexually as well together as one or both of you might like.

The reason I am asking is I am studying towards being a psychotherapist and am about to decide in the next few months which field to specialise in. I have been hanging around Lit for 5 years now so have come across many types of sexuality and feel happy discussing this with strangers.

I live in New Zealand so my cliental would be small than if I lived in NYC but with the inclusion of general relationship help I think it would all work together.

My thought now is how many would go to someone to talk about sexsual things?

i go to see a therapist because i'm gender dysphoric some sexual stuff comes up but my wanting to be a woman has nothing to do with sex and everything to do with what i feel inside.

For people like me, a good sexual therapist would come in handy. There are people out there who can't understand why they are they way they are. Five years of marriage and I thought I was asexual.

If you want to do it and genuinely help people, go for it.

I think that you would be a gift. :rose:

Thanks. Having been around Lit for so many years and not just hung out at the General Baord I have come to learn a lot about sexualality, but of course not everything.

But I have seen so many confused people that is would be nice to be a helping hand in some way.... our own meaning of sexuality comes from so many different places....

T.H. Oughts: Do what your heart feels. And help other people, to feel better. As long, you don´t put the "therapist" mask on. Since that is what I don´t like by many therapists, or for that matter psychiatrists, Psychologist. And so forth, since that is to me an alarm clock. Ringing bigtime. T.H. I would totally go, but I don't need help with sexuality...

Did you see the article on perspectives on the female orgasm in the Dom Post (Wgtn) earlier this year? I think it was in a weekend edition. It had all these theories about what the orgasm was or should be, and why women dont come or only come one way.

One idea was about re-training the thoughts you have approaching orgasm, say if you can only come when you think about certain fantasies, and those fantasies are destructive, or destract you from intimacy with your partner. It was facinating.

Do you learn/study anything like that, or is it more about sexuality and sense of self etc?
