How Long To Top List?

Hello everyone-

I submitted my first ever story to Lit ("Dreams To Come") about a month ago, in three segments. Currently I have the top rated mind-control story in terms of reader voting, but I only see that by clicking to the "Last 30 Days" or "Last 12 months" buttons. Just curious — how long does it take for the story to show up in the All Time (regular) Top List list? Will it really be a year before the story would show up there?

I think - though I might be wrong - that you'll need a few more votes to get on to the all-time top list. Not too many more - I think it starts at 100+.

Doubtless someone will come along and correct me if I'm wrong.

But congratulations on making it to the top of the '30 day' and 'last 12 months' lists. :)

Right on the head. I'm not sure what the numerical limit is, but a story needs to have had a certain number of votes--and retained its high rating--before it gets to the Top Lists. (This was instituted recently; I had a couple stories there earlier this year, and then I checked back a couple months ago and suddenly they were gone. Waah on me.)

Thanks for the info. The first installment has 98 votes at present, so it won't be long for it to make the transition, whatever the score.

Kind of a Catch-22, isn't it? A certain number of votes to even show up, yet if people browsing a category saw that the story was highly rated, they might check it out and possibly vote. I'm new here and it took a while for me to even notice the "Last 30 Days" and "Last 12 Months" options.

Okay, here goes. To get a hot story, you need a score of 4.50 and a viewing of more than 10. to get on the Top list, you have to have at least 140+ votes and a score of the lowest on board at the time. Usually depending on the category you're in it's 4.75 or better That's what I was told when I asked. Lance:cool:

Nah, not 140. Certainly not in Mind Control, anyway - I just took a look and there's one on the all time list with 105 votes. So I'm guessing 100+ is the cut off. I haven't seen it specified anywhere on the site though - the numbers involved are forum speculation.

Look! Stop this talk about the Top List. It's all bullshit. Why?

Stories get to the top list because the stories are pretty well written and BECAUSE THE AUTHOR IS WELL KNOWN AND LIKED.

It's a fucking popularity contest. It has little to do with writing ability.

At the risk of having a bucketful of literoticrap thrown onto me...
The story is getting high votes and I am a Total Nobody.

Unfortunately, what's likely to be thrown at you now is not a bucketful of literoticrap but several zapping votes that can make you forget being on the top list entirely.

True. For the first few days the votes are pretty meaningless. It's the long haul that matters.

I figured that might be true (and it's what I meant). The original question — how does a story make the transition from 30 Days or 12 Months to the regular list was a question of Literotica mechanics, since I'm a newbie.

But yes, it would be kind of sad if votes are motivated either by ridiculous fawning or equally ridiculous hating.

How? It ages onto the 12 months list, as long as it has over 10 votes and competes well against those stories. While on the 30 day/12 month list, if it qualifies by votes and score, it can simultaneously sit on the All Time list. Note: Soular (Interracial.) After 12 months, then, apparently, as has already been stated, it depends on the required bottom vote set for each particular genre. If you don't have the required number of votes, no matter how high your score is, you will be blasted off into Outer Space, never to been seen again! Note: driphoney (interracial.)

That being said, JJ is right. It seems to me that the more you write, the bigger fan base you develop. Each time you post a new story (or chapter) new folks will be attracted to your work and will read your other postings, and often vote. This drives up the vote counts, and hopefully the scores. On the All Time lists you will see a disproportional number of older stories. This has raised some controversy here (check out the threads!) as it might discourage new writers. (See above about being blasted off into Outer Space! :D)

Anyway, I hope some of that helps. And welcome to hard ball erotica style. (Took me months to get my nerve to post in the AH!) :rose::rose:

I'm glad I asked, because the first installment just made the transition from the 30 day list to the regular list, with (wouldn't you know) its 100th vote appearing on the 31st day of the story being posted. I wouldn't have known which was the trigger.
