How long should it take to get your story edited?

I've sent two of my stories to be edited so far. Last time it took about three weeks and this time I'm told it will take about the same length in time. Should I find another to edit? Is that the normal time frame for editing? Help

It all depends on the editor. It is NOT easy to edit someone else's writing, particularly if you want to do a good job. I read through a story a few times before I even start whacking away at it. I look for the "big picture" errors, like inconsistencies in character, ways that you can trim out unnecessary stuff, and ways that can improve the general story, then I go through line by line and point out all of those errors, plus proofreading, plus suggestions on how to fix it. I do not have time to sit down and edit a story within 24-48 hours. Some editors do. Some editors don't. If you want speed, find another editor. If you don't care about speed and you're more concerned about finding an editor that you can work with. Then worry about that. My editing takes well over a month now and I am not taking any new editing because I don't have time.

I guess I have been lucky. All my stories seem to have taken less than a week. But maybe it isn't all luck. I keep unwanted material out (underage, etc), and I try to keep them free of grammar, spelling, and other errors -- as much as writingly possible. Reading and editing a story that doesn't interest a person must be just sheer drudgery. So I try to minimize that drudgery for the Literotica readers and editors. I don't know if that helps, but it seems to. My most recent two stories were up in a few days, "Bar 69: True Story" and "After Bar 69: True Story."

That would be submission to the site itself, NM, not submission to a volunteer editor who is more concerned with the story's correctness and content that the site is.
