Hey there.
I am new to writing and have a question on acceptable length. The first couple I put up were in the 6,000 word range and fit on 2 pages on the site. I have one I have high hopes for but can't get it under about 7700 words. Is this to long for a regular category? should it go in Novels/novellas? any help is appreciated.

Length is subjective to the reader and what they want out of a story. The question was just asked a couple of days ago too.

I have several stories where the chapters are 10K words or longer. I also have a few that are just one lit page long. I have never had complaints about too long or too short only the genre I choose to post in. :)

Heaven's no! Regular stories can go six or more Lit pages without chaptering. I have at least one that goes into the fourth page. Don't worry, if the opening sucks readers in, they will hang on to the end.

That will fit in under 3 Lit pages, which is within what I see as the range of the average Lit reader. Like others have mentioned, I have chapters longer than that *laugh*

Novels and Novellas, though probably intended for anything beyond the short story format originally, has become a catch-all category where you put stories that don't fit any other theme on the site ( or too many in one work ), and which also happen to be long.

Because it's an extremely mixed bag, and has few submissions compared to most categories, N&N is a bit of a reader desert. You're always better off going with another category, if your story fits an appropriate theme.

I like the stories that I read to be a minimum of three lit pages. I prefer if they are more than five pages if they are well written.
