how long does it take to have a story accepted or rejected ?

7 to 14 days.

You will see the 'views' go up when the story is in review.

How many people are there editing and/or approving stories?

How many stories do he/she/they have to approve on a daily basis? Of course, it's based on the number of submissions received and how long each one is but, on average, how many?

How much time do the editor(s) spend each day working?

I know I sound like an impatient little kid but it helps me to know how much work people are up against. Everything in the internet is always "Instant Gratification". We, the users, don't see how much work goes into keeping a website operational.

Knowing things like that helps calm the nerves, if you know what I mean.

I am also keeping my fingers crossed

Yes, I am also waiting for the approvals to my stories which seem to be in a long queue. It is an ordeal to give a proper shape to your imagination or spice up the real stuff to be worthy enough for the readers to enjoy. The sigh of relief after posting a story should be similar to that of Edmund Hilary at the summit of Mt.Everest.However, the waiting sometimes becomes so irritable that one wonders whether our writing adventures would ever see the light of the day at all

Nobody seems to know this number, or how they were selected, who they are, or if they even exist. It is the great mystery of Literotica.

About 50 to 75 stories a day are posted, so even 10 reviewers would have a fair workload.

If you think waiting 7 to 14 days for publication is long, you should someday post a manuscript to a mainstream publisher, or a short story to a magazine. The wait is sometimes months before the rejection notice arrives.

And sometimes it can take even longer, such as during a contest.

So, that works out to 300-500 per week, on average!

Even at a full day's work, ten people would need to do 50 stories per week... 10 per day! (Assuming they don't work on weekends!)

See! With that information, it is a whole lot easier to understand! :)

I can't remember the last time I had to wait more than 7 days for a story to go up.

5-7 is typical in my experience. I think really long stories (>25 Word pages) might take longer.

I actually haven't noticed a great deal of difference related to length. My core tale has an average of 40 Word / 7 Lit pages per chapter posted, and the side stories are around 17-20 Word / 3-4 Lit pages each. The approval speed on them has been pretty much an even average.

If I had to guess, I would say length has more bearing on how many stories get approved in a day, rather than how quickly any individual story gets approved.

8 Days

My last 4 submissions (3 chapters of one story and one stand-alone story) took 8 days each. It's a little nerve-wracking to wait, but once I knew how long to expect, I just didn't think about it until it was time. Then I crossed my fingers and hid under my bed.

I normally wait about a week and then the tension begins.

janiexx :)

The time it has taken for my stories to appear vary greatly. One time, my story appeared the next day, while my last submission took 7 days. Usually, 5-10 days is the norm. Luckily, I am a very patient person.....until the 11th day comes. Then, I scream, yell, cry and hide under a sturdy table until I can't hold my breath any more!

7 to 14 days is pretty accurate in my experience. And once it "hits the streets" it has a shelf life of 2-3 days, depending on the time of week. Maybe slghtly more. Dem's da facts!
