How long does it take to get published??

Hi all, just wanting to ask a little question. On May 10th I submitted a story. It ws my first story submission and was looking forward in about 72 hours, per what the instructions said to seeing my submission in the new stories category. Well today is May 25th and I am still waiting. Getting very discouraged to say the least. I followed the instructions, as far as I know, to the letter. Changed my .doc format to .txt and it looked fine when I previewed it. So, what is the deal? I know there are many submissions per day but two weeks? Isnt' that a bit much even for a first time submission?

Like I said getting a bit discouraged and thinking that it might be the last time I submit a storry here. I know I'm not the best author submitting to Literotica but I have seen stories that in my opinion should never have seen the light of day with out massive editing. I did my own editing and had some friends that I trust also look at the story and make corrections etc. before I even considered submitting, so I think that it was quite acceptable for a first time submission. I tried getting an editor on the forum but was unsuccessful. I originally wrote the story late last year and it took me until May 10 to get it just right and screw up my courage to submit and now.... So that is why I am posting. Just HOW long does it take for a new writer to get published here?

Thanks in advance for information and maybe a bit of encouragement as I just might look elsewhere. I don't want to as I think Literotica is the best story site on the internet but darn, sure would like to see my story.

Thanks again.

Sincerely,
GaeaWindsinger

When you changed your story from .doc to .txt did you resubmit it? If so, there's your problem. Making any changes between the time you submit and the time it's posted moves your story to the end of the queue.

That 72 hours in the FAQ really needs to be corrected. The waiting time is really seven to ten days.

And two weeks isn't so long to wait. I submitted a work to a publisher in January, was accepted in February, got the contract in March, received edits at the beginning of this month, returned edits last week and it comes out in July. If it was a print publisher I'd have to wait until 2008.

Patience grasshopper. ;)

:(

I think lit has gotten so active that the editors are simply overwhelmed... If one person gets ill or too busy with his day job, the schedule goes out of kilter. And this isn't a huge corporation, like Ebay or Yahoo, it's two people and some helpers...

It's frustrating, isn't it? Stay calm, hang out with us, and it will publish and it'll be worth it!

My first one just posted 7 days after it was submitted. I cut and pasted the word doc though instead of changing it. Not sure if that makes a difference. What does your submissions page say? If it still says pending, I'd imagine it hasn't been rejected.

I second what Stella said. Hang in there. It's been so much fun for me the last few days getting feedback and seeing thousands of views on my story. It's such a rush and worth the wait.

Have you checked your submission view box, to see if it's still pending approval? That's the only way I found out that a story of mine was rejected, because I had apparently put an incomplete file in. Since then, I've been a strictly cut and paste guy.

ETA: Am I being repetitive here? Sorry, TK.

No problem here. Repetition is the key to retention. (Or something like that.) :D

The last three times I submitted it was about 6 to 7 days. When they run contests, it sometimes takes longer. Be patient. A good place to post your stories, but learn to ignore the trolls.

Welcome to the A/H.

Yep. The contest just ended, and they get very backed up with submissions and vote counting. That's probably why it's taking so long.

How long does it take......

Ok. I read the submissions page/instructions thoroughly and when it said it would take longer to get published if it was in .doc form I changed it before I even submitted it. So. it was .txt before submission.

Oh I didn't know I could check back on the submissions page.. Let me take a look. Thanks for all your replies and suggestions. I will hang tight and hopefully it won't be very much longer.

Thanks again, all.

Salute,

The length of time varies widely. A story submitted to a magzine is from six months to a year. A book submitted for publication is one to two years. A submission on Lit, generally, is 5 to 7 days, unless you ask THE QUESTION. Then is about the same as a book publication, due to the added work of answering your inquiry, penalties and other costs. Sorry. That's just the way it is.

add a day or two for sending a document rather than cut'n'pasting straight into the submissions box.

One extra advantage to cut 'n' paste is that you can review the layout before submit and see if the bolds, italics etc are still there or if you have a single line residing on the second page.

Warning Will Robinson. Danger. Danger: The HTML for cut'n'pasting a story submission is slightly different to the fora HTML.
