How long does it take for story to be posted?

I just posted my first story here. I'm new but I've been a long time reader of the site. I posted the story and then it said it is pending. How long does that generally take?

Usually about 72 hours but it can vary. If there is a contest on then it could take a day or two longer.

It may take up to a week if you're a first time poster. Once you've submitted a few, your stories will appear faster, usually within 3-4 days. Also, as Jaz said, if there's a special contest going on, it can also take a bit longer.

And here's a hint, don't click that little blue "pending" link because it'll put you right back to the end of the line and you'll wait 3 - 7 days from that point.

Welcome to the Authors' Hangout.

I find that if I post my story Tuesday night, then it gets online sometime Friday or Saturday which gets me the weekend crowds.

But oohhh yea, when there is a contest going things get thrown way out of whack!

Welcome to the AH and writing here Ladyboy! I hope you have a great time. Make sure you put a link to your story in your signature so we can read it when it comes out!

It's been too long since I posted, but it was the same for me. My new status didn't seem to effect anything. Nor did contests seem to matter, usually, with the 3 day turn-around. I liked the Friday "crowd". I didn't see much help with the weekend group, especially Sunday. Isn't that funny? Seems Friday would have you busy getting ready for real fun, not fictional. And I guess my readers were off to church on Sunday! :D

I add my welcome to to Lit's, Ladyboy. :rose:

Not arguing with you here, DH, but I do seem to remember a few newbies complaining about how long their stories took at first to post then after they'd had a few under their belt, they posted quicker.

Things could've changed, I know it's been awhile since I've read it and I don't even remember who originally said it, but a few other newbies chimed in as well.

I think the 'delay' for regular stories posting during special contests can depend a lot on how far into the contest it is.

I never really notice much of a difference in views/votes/comments between a weekday and a weekend. Of course I don't post stories here as much as I used to either. The votes/views/comments probably vary on different days of the week and I've just never noticed.

You can click on the pending link all you want as long as you don't resubmit the thing you're golden. Clicking on that Submit button is what starts the clock again. Clicking on the pending link only brings up what's stored in the database for you to change if you want. If you navigate away from the page nothing is changed. If you click the Submit button you change the date submitted in the database.

If you need to make changes, wait until it posts, then submit it all over again with the work 'EDIT' at the end of the title. Make sure you put all the other text, the description, etc. the same.

Paste your edited story into the submission box and put in the note box that this is and edited version of the original.

Hi, Angelica, and welcome to Literotica and the AH. :) As has been said, three days is about standard, assuming you copy-and-pasted the story, but it takes longer when there is a theme contest going on, as there is now. Contest entries usually post overnight.

I remember being in a panic over one chapter because it did take a day or two longer (which felt like eons!) and it had children in it.

As for difference in reads on different days, most of our discussion here is nothing but postulation, all anecdotal. However, Owlwhisper did a fantastic job a while ago running the numbers here. You need to jump down about half way to find the posting day-of-week totals.

How you doing, Michchick? Having a better year this year? :rose:

Only a little better. As you may know (or not?) my dad passed away in May. He was recovering from heart surgery and 4 days after his surgery a blood clot broke loose from his leg and went into the main artery leading to his heart. Ischemia it was called on the official autopsy report. They'd originally thought the blood clot went into his lungs.

My brother just informed me he spent two weeks in the hospital due to complications from too much drinking...which I knew he drank, but not in the excess he described.

Thankfully he's fine now. The holidays this year will be tough because of my dad's passing, but I'm sure I'll get through them.

Thanks for asking, DH. I'll check out OwlWhisper's numbers.

The correct answer to your question is micro seconds, however, the above posters have correctly answered the question you meant to ask.

Yes, I knew about your father, if not all the details. For some reason, I thought it had been longer. Very rough year, then. :rose::rose::rose:

It will be a tough holiday period for you. I hope you have family or friends (maybe, hopefully a sober brother?) with whom to spend some time. <hug>
