If cared for properly, how long would a double eyebrow piercing take to heal?

I am a wuss, but I've wanted this for a long time and I am going to have it done. However, I need to know how long I should expect to have to deal with it as a wound.

This is basically what I want done....

Do they heal faster the smaller the gauge?

I think it depends on the individual, Mrs. Dave. Some people heal quicker. I'm a quick healer myself. It's in my half-breed genes.

Hi fishy! :)

I don't have mine done but several friends have had it done. Its not a wound :D It was red for a week or so. I'm sure the gage has an effect on the swelling and redness but its still not a wound! LOL

And, piercings are never as bad as think its going to be. I was panicked when I did my bellybutton, thought for sure it was going to make me pass out or something! Stab..push..tug...DONE! Barely felt it. You'll see, it won't be bad. :)

I am not afraid to be wounded. ;)

It is too a wound. :D

It can be infected like any other perferation of the epidermis.

Wound or not, it is dangerous to have done and not care for properly so I need to know a time frame, but yes... One week or so... maybe two...

I can deal with that, no problem.

Yeah, the do it so fast it is a wink.... done...

I've watched it a lot on the Dead lot.

the size doesn't matter.. it's still the same amount of skin that needs to heal.

My piercing took a couple of weeks to "heal".. but even after 3 years it still can be opened up if I'm not careful. (But.. my ears are the same way, and they have been pierced for over 20 years)

I have had my eyebrow ring changed one time. I went from the silver ring they pierced it with to a solid gold ring (all the rest of my jewelry is gold.. so I changed so it would all match). I had it changed about year ago and when the piercer changed it.. it ripped a little bit on the inside. But for the most part it's healed.

Each person is different. You could heal in a few weeks or you could take a few months.

I'm thinking about getting a second one done also. I love the look of the double rings.

Thanks freaky. Aren't the double ones cool? I love that look.

I wondered about gauge because the coring out of the tissue for a larger gauge opens a larger internal area up to be healed. I would imagine that you use antibiotic ointment on them while they heal, right?

I will see, because I am gonna do it.
I am bound and determined.

I was told not to use anything like neosporin or anything.

my instructions were

wash couple of times a day with antibacterial soap.. turn the ring to make sure the soap got worked around good.. then rinse... don't touch unless needed.. and when you touch it make sure you wash your hands first.

Mr. Mischka had a 14 gauge in his eyebrow (maybe a 12?), and it took a little over a week to heal. When he took it out, however, the hole closed completely within a day.

Weird Misch. I wonder why?

I heal up okay. I think it will be fine.

Mr Mischkas piercing probably wasn't completly healed when he took out his ring/stud.

They will heal quickly (back to the old skin) But remember.. the hole they poke essentially needs to grow new skin in order to close up.

It's kind of like digging a tunnel.. The "walls" are bare.. and new skin needs to be produced to cover the "walls" up.

A piercing is a wound. And it needs patience and TLC to heal. Be patient.. don't go changing the ring (or stud) for about a year or so. I was told 6 months.. and I regret that I didn't wait because like I said mine ripped back open and I had to go through the cleaning and such again.

Infection can happen and they can be serious. (Pus, severe redness and soreness) If you get one.. go to the dr. Don't remove the piercing.. just go to the dr. You might get a lecture for the piercing (god knows I've gotten a few) but he will give you the proper meds to get rid of the infection.

Cym uses neosporin, based on her recent thread on her muttiple peircings. I can dig up the thread if you'd like....

Why do I think you're gonna squeeze the hell out of me?

thanks FG, good tips.

Yes, please stormy poo.

 I just fucked up my manicure because I am too impatient to wait to type. crap.

I just found this.. http://www.tribalectic.com/Aftercare.asp?PType=Eyebrow

Maybe it can give you some insight on it.

Storm.. I was told not to use neosporin because it's oil based. It can actually hinder the healing process. I read that Cym used it.. maybe what I've been told and what I've read are incorrect. I didn't have any problems in my healing.. so I never really thought about needing to use it. I just remember being told not to use it.

I don't pretend to know anything about piercings, so I'm just relaying info here. Cym just seems like an expert, that's all.

Well, I'm off to obey the fish and play some vids. I'll be back later.

How many piercings does one need to be an expert? Do my 12 count? ;)

Have fun playing video games. :)

Play nice. :p

I have 4 in my ears, but that isn't anything.

Neosporin: Active Ingredients: Each gram contains: Polymyxin B Sulfate 5,000 units, Bacitracin Zinc 400 units and Neomycin 3.5mg.

Inactive Ingredients: Also contains a base of cocoa butter*, cottonseed oil*, olive oil*, soduim pyruvate*, tocopheryl acetate* and white petrolatum.

Polysporin:Active Ingredients: Each gram contains: Polymyxin B Sulfate 10,000 units and Bacitracin Zinc 500 units in a special white petrolatum base.

There is something about putting a petroleum product into an open wound that offends me in some way. Rather than use an antibiotic, I would probably lean towards an antimicrobial.

buttons that is great. Thank you.

I will certainly have some Malaluca then.
Thank you.

aww....now I'm missing my eyebrow ring (had to take it out b/c of a grown up job). I could never go through it again...I almost passed out when they gave it to me. Anyways...antibacterial soap several times a day, moving the ring so the skin doesn't heal directly on it. Lastly...from my own experience, don't play with it. Your hands aren't as clean as you think they are and if you just toy with it, it *will* get infected. Always wash your hands before touching your eyebrow ring.

The reason I no longer have a nose ring is because I got sick of constantly having to repierce my nose everytime I went a couple of hours without the ring. The exterior hole would stay, but the inside would heal over. Made a really cool gritching sound though.

Fishie, I mentioned it in the other thread, but I'll get my brow done too.

I really wish I knew more about herbal/natural remedies. This must be really up your alley with your knowledge of plants. I think it is something I would like to learn more about...
