How long does a story remain pending?

...until your soul dies a thousand deaths.

I think if you're a new author the mods might read it through more carefully, so if there'a lot of new authors there's a backlog. If you've sent through stories before without problems submissions probably get a more cursory check. Just my guess, but Laurel stays fairly tight-lipped about procedures.

I cannot wait any longer.

Awww sure ya' can. What other choice do you have?

They get posted when they get posted. Generally under 7 days, but some have reported longer.

There are no 'Mods' reviewing stories. Maybe an autobot or two scanning for violations.

I see. So I have to wait either 7 days or for my soul to die. Thank you for your answers, made me a tad bit less impaitent.

To remain clear on this point for writers--there is only one person dealing with all story submissions on Literotica. Laurel. There are no "mods" doing any of this.

My stories almost universally take two days to post.

Yes, I will :)

At least tell me that Laurel has it better than my unpaid internship.

Laurel co-owns the site, so she's probably better off than an unpaid intern. On the other hand, she works every day, and has for decades. It's the cost of ownership, you know.

Meh.

I'm on day 7 of being pending. Hubby (brand new writer) just got his approved and posted in two days. Go figure.

I haven’t recorded specific stats, but I’d say my average is no more than three days across all of my stories, so likely a few took just over that. I can’t recall any of mine taking seven days. Never published in BDSM, mostly SF&F, NonHuman and Erotic Horror, with some early ones in EC and a couple other one-offs.

For my Summer Lovin’ 2020 entry (in First Time) it was rejected within 36 hours (two adults flirting around children, well, I guess, it was the generic ‘minor involved?’ rejection) and after I edited (had the children with their nana and kept the flirting) and resubmitted it was published within 24 hours.

Non-contest stories take longer when there is a contest underway, but then contest stories are quick - often just a day or two.

As noted above, newbies seem to wait longer as well.

Mine was non-consent and it involved drugging. I looked at the rules as I couldn't remember if that was tolerated but didn't see any mention of it being forbidden. I'm just returning to writing after a long absence, maybe it needs another edit. Hopefully will get approved today, day 8.

Ah, meant to mention this in my post. I now keep any non-contest stories back and wait until after the submission period. When I was ‘young’ I’d submitted such during a contest period and not only was it slow to get posted, hardly anyone read it  And yes, my Winter Holidays entry has already moved from Pending to New (~24 hours) but it hasn’t yet published. I have a non contest one ready, I’ll hold that until December.

If this is the case and it’s not a Winter Holiday entry, then yes, your subjects are bumping against the guardrails and I’d guess it’s getting a more thorough look over but has gone on the low priority pile (so to speak). Until you get a response (it gets posted, all good, it gets rejected, then you edit) you won’t know.

I’ve no recommendations that are really useful. But, don’t worry about editing more until and unless it gets rejected. Instead, put the energy into your next story, whatever it is, for now.

I enjoyed that red, good read. Mine got kicked back this morning, I need to break it into smaller paragraphs.
