How is the 'Hot' Badge Earned?

Do they though? I thought switching off voting made stories ineligible for top lists. Anybody have an example of a top-list story with voting disabled?

I remember seeing some in there fairly recently. But when I just checked, I didn't find any.

Then again, I do have wild realistic dreams of, for instance, organizing my book cards. Maybe I was dreaming.

I have not heard that it does, but it's not like I researched it, either. You may very well be right.

Most top lists require 100 votes. The score is relatively settled by then. If the story is in a rarer kink in a less read section and takes a long time to get 100 votes, the score will tend migrate down after the increased exposure of a top list.

I suppose it's possible to hit 100 votes and freeze the score, but I would completely agree that would be unfair if it isn't already banned in the same way as for contests.

I don't know the answer to this.

But suppose the answer is that if you turn off voting your story will be stricken from all contests and all top lists. It might STILL be unfair to be able to maintain a score on Literotica that is a fake score. It gives one an advantage, for instance, when readers search for stories and list the search results by score. One's story with the voting turned off may appear above other stories that still allow voting.

The fact remains, it's a fake score if it's not derived from the same rules that most people follow.

I specifically referred to the 30 day lists, because they do not require a minimum of votes.

It is an indication that people LIKE the story, not necessarily that it is 'Hot'.

True. My highest rated submission to this site is an essay which has nothing in the way of stroke material, unless the reader is truly desperate:

I was surprised to see that an essay of mine entitled "Nudism and Sex" got a red H, even though its erotic content was zilch. So I guess that Oggbashan's analysis is right.

I have Red Hs for How to Plot Flash Fiction, and How to Write a fifty Word Story. the latter also has a Blue W. And my two essays on Free Speech have Red Hs, and another Blue W.

The degree of erotic content isn't the most important factor; it's a matter, to some degree, of whether the story meets the expectations of those who read stories in that category. Your story was published in the "Reviews and Essays" category. Readers of that story would not expect an erotic fiction story. It's a self-selecting group.
