How is Pat Benatar not already in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame?

What an injustice! Artists who are decidedly not rock & roll artists have been inducted, as have artists who are questionably Hall of Fame material. Pat has, in my opinion, one of the 2 or 3 most powerful female voices ever, and her music is undeniably rock and roll. Any insights?

Not enough memorable hits?

I still hear Joan Jett in movies like Ready Player One,
but nobody does Benatar. Maybe she's a royal cunt...

Rock and roll hall of fame is a joke!
How can rappers and Motown entertainers be admitted.
It’s rock and roll.. I never have visited nor woukd I ever.

hey...

the only way she would be there is by buying a ticket or as a janitor

She was lousy live...didn't write her own music or lyrics...she was a creation of the early MTV generation

I'm a biased person on Pat.

My ex loved the shit out of her; played her constantly.

I hate my ex.

She was named Pat too.
She should be in the Bitches Hall of Fame...

would make an interesting mud wrestle the wilson twins VS benatar and joan jett

she was really good live when I saw her and her husband is an excellent guitarist.

Much of what you wrote was incorrect, she had already hit is big about 2 years before MTV,. She and her husband wrote many of the hits but not all after her first album. She was the top female artist and a trail blazer pre Madonna (just watch Fast times at Ridgemont High). Other than Heart she was the top rock female of her era. Joan Jett and the Blackhearts in comparison was basically a cover band, I love rock and roll and crimson and clover for example.

The rock hall of fame is a joke. Rush was one of the best examples, they didnt get in for years until the fan vote, yet were still selling out arenas 40 years after they started.

Pat and Neil Giraldo should go in as a team. He stayed in the background early on since they wanted her to have that sex symbol appeal

I'm a huge old country fan, and I belong to a country music discussion group where we bemoan the people who haven't been inducted into the Country Music hall yet. Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Rodriguez, T.G. Sheppard, and Jack Greene are among the top of my list in this regard.

Ridiculous list. Half are definitely not R&R. Pat Benatar should definitely be in. (A long time ago) Rappers, hip-hop, and country don't belong. Pop maybe....

Pat Benatar, Devo, Duran Duran and Rage vs Machine should get in for sure.

Pat Benatar and Devo because they were so iconic, Duran Duran because they were so distinctive in their sound (as well as being iconic for the mid-80's music scene) and Rage because they were trend-setters.

Eminem- I like Eminem but as mentioned, he's rap. Rap =/= rock.
MC5 and New York Dolls were hugely influential but didn't stick around long enough to have lasting classic-rock appeal. Which is sadly ironic, as many of the bands they later influenced, did.
Judas Priest- They clearly belong, and clearly deserve it. But they're a metal band, and that will probably count against them in the final vote.
Carly Simon, Kate Bush, Dionne Warwick- erm, maybe, but not "rock" enough in my opinion.
Dolly Parton- Country =/= rock (see Eminem above. Wrong genre.)
Eurythmics- Typlified the 80's, but not as good as Duran Duran or as trend-setting. Maybe not a first-time nominee.
Tribe called Quest- rap/soul, maybe borderline rock at best, great artist but marginal as far as H.O.F rock artist material.
Fela Kuti- never heard of this artist. Which means, many on the H.O.F. judging panel might not have either. Not well known enough, in other words. Probably clearly good enough to deserve SOME recognition, but so is Pentagram, Agent Orange, and Dinosaur Jr, who likely won't get in either.

My main insight is that voting for the Rock and Roll HOF was dominated for years by Jann Wenner and his pals. Leaving aside the long waiting period to be considered (which is justified), they were quick to recognize their heroes from the '60s and relatively slow to recognize later generations.

I think there's also a sense that Benatar wasn't really an "artist," more just a hired voice (I'm not a huge fan myself, because I don't think the material was particularly interesting). But it's certainly true that the Rock Hall has overlooked that for other artists. Elvis obviously wasn't a singer-songwriter; nor were the great Motown vocal groups. And the biggest hits for Joan Jett, whose career peak overlaps with Benatar's, were all covers.

Pat Benatar? She was the Britney Spears of the MTV hair metal era. Get out of here with your Pat Benatar.

I put in the groundbreakers except for NY Dolls. Although they are credited for all kinds of shit by all kinds of musicians, they just ain't worthy, IMO.

“Dolly here! Even though I am extremely flattered and grateful to be nominated for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, I don't feel that I have earned that right. I really do not want votes to be split because of me, so I must respectfully bow out. I do hope that the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame will understand and be willing to consider me again - if I'm ever worthy. This has, however, inspired me to put out a hopefully great rock 'n' roll album at some point in the future, which I have always wanted to do! My husband is a total rock 'n' roll freak, and has always encouraged me to do one. I wish all of the nominees good luck and thank you again for the compliment. Rock on!”

Halls of Fame are useless once you get past the original 10.
