It was wedge Politics.
It was wedge Politics, not talk radio. Talk Radio just gave the right a megaphone which was in some measure a counter balance to the mainstream media which the left owns.
I'd say it goes back to wedge politics. The right would preach how the left lacked morals. The left would preach how the right was oppressing women by their stance against abortion and try to split the vote between husband and wife. The left has been more effective using the education system to indoctrinate on a large scale IMO.
