I found a story I thought would be good to narrate, but in looking at the author's profile, it appears it hasn't been updated in more than 6 years. Attempts to contact the author thru an email also failed.

How does the site handle content that appears to have been abandoned. I've attempted to find the item elsewhere on the internet and have not found any other mention of it or this member.

The site leaves the content up, forever, but I can't see them ever passing on contact details.

Forget your idea of narration. If you don't have permission, you shouldn't do it - copyright belongs to the author, you have no rights to use content that's not yours.

It is not abandoned.
It is still the writers work. Just like a Rembrandt is still a Rembrandt.
Writers in Literotica seem to feel that if a writer doesn't respond to them that's like getting permission.
It's not...
I would like to se a rapist use that defence in a court of law.
"I did ask, but when she didn't respond, I considered it consensual."
Yeah right...

Always get permission. It doesn't how absent the author has been. There are innumerable options for reading stories by authors who are active and present, so confine your efforts to them.

There are quite a few cases where a writer has dropped off the face of the earth for years, only to pop up again when it suits them. They wouldn't be happy if you took their story.

People have lives and jobs and creative droughts.

For the most part, we write as an avocation. I've been mostly inactive for several years because I couldn't access internet reliably at home. People come and go as it suits them. Inactive is not always abandoned.

Even if they don't return, don't use content without permission.

What is it that drew you to the piece? Can you transfer that aspect into an original script without plagiarizing? Can you collaborate with an active writer to achieve the desired result?

Inspiration by another's work is fine. Outright theft will cause you problems. I'm Trying to suggest solutions from limited information.

Just saying, the site (Laurel) has enough to do without going through all two-million registered users or whatever the number is.

That said, and since this is your first post, all of the other warnings being given on this thread are good advice.

Thank you all. Appreciate the advice and guidance
If you feel you want to do something inspired by it with characters different but based on the other person’s ideas there’s no harm in that.

There are dozens of different but similar stories on this site and I’m sure more content will not harm it.

As long as it’s not under-age bestiality (Laurel is not a fan and will dish out a Hardy reprimand…no? Well I thought it was funny).
