one's penis? Y'know, to prevent ingrown hairs. Do I need some expensive product or can I do it manually as it were like rubbing it vigorously with a wash cloth or something? Would that work? Actually it sounds kinda fun.

You can rub with a washcloth gently (i.e. so it doesn't hurt or damage the skin) in small circles. There are also exfoliating bath gloves, cloths, etc., but take care not to get something that will be too rough on that skin.

Baking soda is an easy, cheap exfoliant. Just apply some in the shower and massage in small circles.

You could also use a fine-grained exfoliating face wash. I like St. Ives Gentle Apricot or Apricot Radiance Scrub, but anything like that should work just fine. Something with salicylic acid in it will help with the exfoliation, but it can also be drying and irritating, so you'd want to work in small areas, rinsing thoroughly as you go, and have something to moisturize just in case. This would probably be my choice.

Thanks very much. You're so helpful.

make sure you keep your skin moist with a lotion, and make sure you go with the grain if you shave

I like my facial buff puffs. I would think that with care they would work in other sensitive areas.

I don't know about using a scrubbing face wash like St. Ives Apricot scrub, it may need too much rubbing in and cause a bit too much friction on the skin.

I second the washcloth idea too, soak the area well, and if you have a bath mit that is loofa on one side and washcloth on the other, you can try either side or both, until you find what works for you.

I might also suggest, if you have a lot of potential ingrown hairs, you might want to consider not shaving so close (which can encourage hairs to become ingrown) and shaving a bit more frequently if the slightly longer stuble bothers you.

Sugar scrubs, like the kind sold at Bath & Body Works, might work. I've used them to exfoliate my pubic area, staying away from the really sensitive bits, of course.

You'd want to use a sugar scrub and not a salt scrub, I'd imagine.

Easy to make with brown sugar and almond, sunflower, or even olive oil, too. I made them for Christmas, and they were a big hit. :)

Private_Label, some of the St. Ives formulas are very creamy and not rough at all, provided you aren't rubbing the hell out of your skin. The Apricot Radiance exfoliates with tiny beads instead of shells, and I find it extremely gentle, even when my skin is irritated. The facial buffers/sponges are a good idea though.

And probably cheaper, too. Never thought of that.

Yup. Recipes abound on the web. Apart from cost, the reason I prefer to make it is I can control all of the ingredients, consistency, scent, and make a variety for different uses. :)

The way i keep my legs silky soft is with a homemade sugar scrub. 1/2 c sugar, 1/4tsp ground cloves, and enough sweet almond oil to moisten. I always mix this right before i get into a long hot shower.

For your purpose id omit the cloves and exfoliate away.
