i’m kind of new at writing sex scenes so would love any advice.
How do you write a good realistic sex scene?

Like any other topic, you write from experience, and use you imagination. Pick a past experience, then imagine the possibilities. The most fascinating stories are those that have a ring of truth.

My sex scenes are based partly on actual experience and partly on my favorite fantasies. I try to simply put myself in the scene to develop dialogue from what I would like to say and would like to hear. It works whether you're doing first person or third person. Pull from what you like and have enjoyed. I'm personally fond of oral and regular fucking and love raw dirty talk so my scenes will gravitate that way. I've had some experience with anal and threesomes so I can pull from that as well and try to put the sorts of thoughts in my characters heads that I experienced as well as what I was hoping others were thinking.

Good sex scenes take a few different ingredients.
1. The best sex scenes have already been developed from the interactions and character development of the participants. Most stories that just kinda get to it aren't scored as high because we, as readers, have little emotional attachment to them. Even hooking up for scenes that forgo romance are best written when there's something at stake for everyone involved.
2. Action, action, action. Use active voice, use verbs, and be descriptive. You have to write to the audience too, where in ROMANCE you'll be giving more caresses, kisses, and slow build. Try writing in ANAL and you'll need to be descriptive of the sensation of ass-fucking. But keep things moving. Someone should be doing something at all times.
3. Practice and practice more. Keep writing, keep using the right words, figure out how you like to show what's happening. Write and write more. Read many stories, even ones you may not expect to enjoy and you'll learn.
