Here's one of my little pet peeves: the come/cum issue.

Personally, I prefer "come". This is probably because my first exposure to the term was in Penthouse Forum, and that's the way Penthouse spells it. I saw "cum" later on in ads for 1-900 numbers, and assumed that was a deliberate misspelling because it's easier to get a phone number where you only specify three numbers instead of four.

Because of that, "cum" feels like a deliberate dumbing-down to me, and so it grates on me whenever I see it. It actually ruins somewhat my enjoyment of the story. Those who have submitted threads to me know that I'm a real stickler for spelling and grammar, and I know that's not a very endearing quality under many circumstances, but I can't help it - it's how I am.

Anyway, I suggest that Penthouse is a good enough authority on the subject that their spelling should be adopted as the correct and true one. But I put it to a vote here, just to see what everyone thinks. I won't change the way I write over it, but I do want to see if my opinion is in the deep minority.

I prefer "cum". To me, it seems to have a purer sexual implication and is more precise in what it is meant to represent, both as a noun and as verb. But then, I’m all for making “they” a gender-neutral singular pronoun so I gots all sorts of weird ideas.

The term "come" was an abreviation for the phrase "i am coming to an orgasim" and was applicable to both genders, eventually the term was used to refer to male ejaculant. This created some confusion as always happens when an originally genderless begins to take on characteristics of a single gender. Ordinarally his would have been no more significant than say a girl named Sam. But their was a loop-hole in the system, in ancient Latin there was a word, "cum" pronounced "Koom" (rhymes with boom). This word had been as common in the language as the word "come" is in english. Like Come it had had a relatively harmless meaning "with." The word had taken in latin a meaning which also sexual [this is common in latin, the original symposia (which the correct plural of symposium) had been little more than orgies] the word "cum" came to mean the ejaculant and while "come" was allowed to mean both the ejaculant and the orgasim. However, people are stupid. when some saw the new word "cum" in a place they had seen "come" they assumed that the word was slang for the "come" and could be used in all the places and ways "come" was.

If you want to be correct use "cum" for ejaculant and "come" for orgasim.

When, in my early teens, or possibly just before, I heard the c-word link to ejaculant, I automatically assumed it was spelt c-u-m - as opposed to being a derivation of "I am coming!". There was no logic to this, but then in later years I realised that I had got it accidentally right (according to some views).

So, sorry mate, I'm with c-u-m.

Cum with me...

First off,
Maester, I am just curious of your source for the information.

Secondly, I like to use the word CUM when referring to both male ejaculant and male/female orgasm. Reason why... we use COME on an everyday, normal basis. So, I like using CUM in the sexual situation.

I also was exposed to the CUM spelling in an adult magazine ad.

So my answer is I like CUM for sex, and COME for everyday. And if I could CUM everyday from sex; I'd probably like it the other way around!

First: I am a historical linguist, this is what I do. The other historical linguists and I study the change in the meaning of words in different language. Etymology is a fascinating study. But if I want know anything like this I just talk to one of the Professor I have met.

Second: That would be like me then as prescribed by the second catagory. The english language is the most mutable language out there and that includes Russian. That is why I love it. We can change the meaning to anything we want.

C-U-M, a fine tradition

Though I sometimes use both spellings in various threads, usually based on the tone and flavor of said story, I prefer 'cum' for the hardcore stories. After all, would 'comeslut' have the same tawdry connotation? I also referred back to the 80's porn novels that got me started in all this, and my favorite authors all used c-u-m
