How do you promote your self-publishing through social media?

Better yet, DO you promote your self-publishing through social media? And if so, how?

Also, how does social-media promoting while publishing under a pen name work?

I have a twitter account though in all honesty? I don't think it has ever resulted in a sale. I've connected with other authors and met some beta readers, but it is not great for advertising.

Twitter is grumpy about adult and sex related content and won't promote your tweets. They've actually gotten worse since for FOSTA / SESTA stuff. I can't even schedule tweets because my posts were too naughty or something.

Facebook is the same way. I haven't touched my author page in over a year. Tumblr used to welcome smut of all kinds, but that recently changed.

I freely admit that I may not be using social media correctly. I had only one tweet in several years that broke a hundred re-shares, and it had nothing to do with sex or erotica. It was just really funny.

I still maintain a good reads page, but that's the only bit of author social media that relates directly to my books.

Thank you. That's about what I figured especially with Facebook. I'm reading through Smashwords FAQ's and haven't even seen the words "social media" (may have missed them).
