How do you get yourself going when you're down in the dumps?

Me....well also depends on the nature of the down feeling.
Usually I go out and blow off some steam. Like in the worse time of my life. I Travelled. And ended up in San Diego :) Thanks again Laurel and Manu.
In less extreme circumstances, I either go out patying until I drop.
Or I excesise until my lungs explode.
Once I skated for so long on a ramp that my knees were double size and hurting like hell.

Basically burning off as much steam as I can, anyway I can.

I try to create something when I'm feeling down. I'll work on my writing, or play around on a paint program. Sometimes I'll cook. My fiance can always tell what kind of day I've had by how much food is waiting for him when he gets home.

When I'm able, I go for walks. I'm lucky to live in a beautiful neighbhorhood with lots of trees. If I'm housebound, I'll put on They Might Be Giants or something equally silly and sing right along.

If you've got the negative self-talk going on, telling you all these reasons you shouldn't be in a good mood, kick its ass. Keep your chin up. After all, pessimism wouldn't have worked anyway. ;)

I come here. What better place to be when you're feeling down than with friends. Plus, there is always someone here to help you feel better, and not quite so alone.

If you are of the persuasion, I always pack a bowl, listen to music and write poetry with a lot of Dr. Pepper nearby.
But I know how you feel I think. This holiday season has been very anticlimatic, for me at least.

when I am down in the dumps...........

I usually make myself laugh by doing silly stuff. Listening to music that is upbeat and happy helps. More than anything when I am unhappy or feeling down, I try and think WHY am I down in the dumps, find out why then do something about it~~~which is not always easy or achieveable. You do what you have to whether that is watching a funny movie, reading or writing or coming to the BB, or watch old videos of yourself doing stupid or silly shit......heck even looking at old pictures and reminiscing helps.

I try and find the silver lining in everything. It helps alot, because even in black clouds there are silver linings...
