How do you get people to vote

on your stories? I have some stories with a lot of readers, but not many votes. Is there some secret formula to get people to vote? Is begging involved?

This is the eternal question of Literotica. I only have a few tips, not all of them very helpful.

1. The number one thing you can do is write an amazing story. If it's a story that is so good that it blows the reader away, many people will be compelled to vote just because you gave them such a great ride. But, mind you, it really has to stand out from the crowd.

2. Write a lousy story. If a story really sucks the big one, people will sometimes vote out of disgust. Of course, most writers don't want this.

3. This next tip is only speculation. If you have a short vignette (really just a sexual scenario without much else), make sure your story ends very close after the climax(es). That way, the people wanking off will conveniently be right there at the end with the voting choices in front of them.

4. I don't think it can hurt to politely request votes at the end of the story, perhaps in an author's note. ("Thank you for reading my story. I hope you enjoyed it. I really appreciate feedback in the form of both email and votes. Thanks again.")

5. Some people campaign. They tell all their electronic friends that they have a story up and to please vote on it.

Voting here amazes me.. I write a story that gets 53k reads with 100 votes. When I look at the board there are stories with 1200 votes and it was submitted at the same time as mine... how do they do it... Anybody got any ideas on how they do it...

You have no idea how I hate to write drivel like this but it is a truth. The lose of any writer's voice deminishes us all. Every writer must decide when it is time to stop but the lose of either a great or not so great writer is a lessening of the pool of courage we all draw from.
I am new to this site if not to writing. I can not speak to any one particular person only to the totality of our small pool or resources with the giant pool of ego.
I will miss the sound of another voice in the wilderness.

Bad guys get caught now there is an idea whose time has come. I will have to give that some serious thiought..

Rusher, the long and short of it is that, yes, I believe shorter stories get more feedback.

When someone reads a series, they usually send you feedback on the first or the second chapter. It is the rare reader that sends you something after every chapter (A big thank you to those that do!).

A series is rewarding in that it keeps giving. The people that read series, will search for good material. So it is not uncommon to get feedback on stuff that was written some time ago.

Here's something really weird that I've noticed on my novella. The number of views and votes diminish with each succeeding chapter, but on the last chapter, they shoot back up again. It's like people read the beginning and then skip to the end. What's with that? The ending won't mean anything if you don't read everything that leads up to it!
