How do you get feedback?

Ok, I know everyone has asked this question before, however, I have recently posted my third story on here and its getting a 4.6, but only one feedback comment.

How do you get people to comment on your stories so you actually know what their thoughts are?

Here is a link if you would like to let me know what you think.

Thanks for all the help. :)

This story really turned me on, but the grammar was awful. You need an editor, honey! That's not me, by the way. I need all my creative talents for my own stories. Please don't loose heart; a decent attempt!

There is a very large difference between the number of people giving feedback (either public or private) the number of people voting and the overall number of reads on your stories.

That's just the way it is, unfortunately.

Hang in there.

:)

(edited to add) Some categories do receive more reader voting and feedback than others, however. Incest seems to receive a great deal of both.

Generally the most feedback will come on controversial stories. And usually that's because there will be a faction that HATES the story, and a faction that loves it, and they'll argue with each other.

About all you can do is put an author's note at the end begging for feedback. Or just keep writing :)

Just tell yourself that the story brought the reader to such a blissful orgasm that s/he's too out of it to type. :)

As a general rule I've found that about 1/100 people vote and 1/100 of those send feedback (on average).

The best way to get more readers and thus more feedback is in the advertising. This is through title and description.

For example I released a chapter of one of my stories on sept 15 with a description "there affects of the pheromones begin to show". It's been viewed 2859 times and gotten one feedback comment.

I released another chapter in the same story on sept 28 with the description "donald loses his virginity in a very unexpected way" and it's been read 4660 times and already has a 2 feedback comments.

I find descriptions like with the word "slut" in them get the most reads.

Okay, this will seem like I'm being defensive, but here it is...

Angelique, were you reading the story that was included in the link (Sex Slave Ana)? If so, please be a little more precise about the grammar. As the editor, I'd be interested to hear your take on what the story should have been, grammatically.

"About 6:30. I want to get there early. We can pick up something to eat on the way, he said, excitement in his voice. Hurry up; I'll be there soon... Bye."

You missed some quotes.

"What's the matter, Ana, does that scare you? You have to realize that I've been patient. I'm taking it slow for you, but once I get two fingers up your ass, my cock is next" . I felt his cock growing under me and I knew he would take me soon.

What's the matter, Ana? Does that scare you? - two sentences

next" . - next quote space period?

just minor things like this and a few more commas than are really necessary. overall good though.

Boratus...

Thanks. I didn't see that I'd missed that.

I don't know about the two sentences thing, it could go either way, depending on the way it was being phrased. I heard it as two distinct thoughts. I see what you mean there, though.

And the other one, about the period after the quotes, is a particular pet peeve of mine. I'm surprised that one got by me.

But *awful*? Okay, matter of opinion.

And on the comma thing: I sometimes tend to go overboard, I know.

Sorry, Bitch...

*Taking bruised pride and acknowledging that I'm not perfect.*

Thanks. I didn't see that I'd missed that.

You may want to remind Bitch to read your edits once more after you return it. By that time it's more of a fresh look and she might catch the odd mistake that you missed.

My editor is wonderful but not perfect. I occasionally find a missed error and once in a while a correction that actually makes the sentence wrong. But looking at the amount of corrections she's made it's not like I can complain. Without her my work would be a mess!

Damn...

To my editor... Susurrus, I am sorry if I missed some of the things that you more than likely pointed out. I do so appreciate all that you have helped me with on this story.

As far as Angelique... I understand that my style of writing may not be the style that you enjoy reading and writing, however, I appreciate your comments. That is your opinion, and that is what I asked for.

Actually, what I was looking for was more on the idea of the story line, the way it was written, if there were parts that seemed to be worse than others. But hey, getting any kind of feedback is greatly appreciated.

As far as the mistakes, sorry everyone, I am new to this writing thing. Actually, After many years of writing these stories, this is the first place I have posted, yet allowed anyone to read them.

To me, this is a hobby. I am not going to make any money at it, I am not going to become a best selling author, I am writing because I like to. As far as the mistakes, well, if I had a nickle for every mistake I found in most of these stories, I would be very rich.

Boratus, I appreciate your comments and the encouragement that I found in them. That goes for Sweetsubsarahh and JamesSD as well. I do sincerely appreciate the encouragement. :)

Again, Susurrus, thank you for all your help and friendship.

re Boratus

Here is a comment I posted on another thread a few days ago, Boratus reports 1/100 votes and comments, my 1/1000 and 1/350 is therefore pritty poor:

From the twelve chapter story I have submitted:
http://english.literotica.com/stori...y.php?id=205352
I have accumulated 129,000 views, not I concede reads, but have only received 55 pubic comments and around 65 private ones. That is around 1 in a 1,000 that show any interest at all. The majority of the comments have been genuine but I have been called a “black” and have been criticised for mentioned big black cocks. The thing I find strange is that the theme is prostitution yet not one criticism on that subject.

It is, I have learnt, best to be very pleased when I receive a genuine good comment and to accept any containing considered criticism. The crude and completely negative comments have got to be ignored. Remember it is only one in thousand that comment, you can fantasize that all the others enjoyed the read.

My hate is the voting system; the number of votes accumulated is about three times the total comments – a little less effort for the reader to hit the vote button. It is rather disappointing when you can see perhaps a dozen people in a day work through all the chapters, presumably therefore enjoying the read, but the votes count does not change.

My views on the voting system are shown here:

slight correction there. I said 1/100 votes and 1/100 of those send feedback on average. that's 1 feedback for every 10,000 views for me! I often wonder how many viewers enjoy my stories to make it to the end. I could be that only 1/100 do and everyone who has read my stories completely has actually voted!

Having an analytic mind I've also realized what kind of things I can put into stories to illicit feedback but to do that I'd be writing for the sake of feedback and not to tell the stories I want.

I guess we just need to take comfort in the fact that it's happening to all of us.

I admit I'm bad about voting. Still, I do vote for some of the stories I read. However, I only comment if I have something to say. If my main thought after reading a story is, "Hm, that was a great story," I won't bother commenting. If, on the other hand, I actually have something to say about why I liked the story or some constructive criticism, I'll actually comment. If reading a series, I'm unlikely to remember to vote in every chapter and I definitely won't comment on them all.

Still, maybe I deserve a few brownie points from some authors for reading their stories on other sites and then coming to the copy here (once it finally gets through the queue) just to vote.

Grammar, editors, and such

I wanted to tag on to the discussion about grammar and editors. My experience, and I even do this for a living, is that almost no editor in the world, and I am referring to professional ones as well, catch everything. If you really want to get it all, you have to have more than one review it. My first story had 3 editors, me (a part-time paid editor), and Word all do a Grammar check. I think I found some tiny thing recently that we had still missed. So that's just the way it is. I'm not saying all this to be pessimistic; I'm saying that if you have the patience, get at least 2 people other than yourself to review your story. You will also find that each has their own strength. I have one editor who is a grammar queen and another who always has creative ways to make this scene better and such. Don't know what I would do without them. I guess I would write bad stories is what I'd do. Incidentally, I am pretty sure tonight's New stories will include one of mine. I can't wait. This writing thing is so addictive.

For the estimates on who comments. My first story, lesbian, got 11,000 views, 85 votes, about 25 private feedback messages, and 4 public comments. I hear that the approx. 10,000 is typical for my category. I don't know about the rest.

I'll fess up:

I don't vote. If I find a story that I think merits some kind of response, I write to the author to let them know (and let them know who sent it). As a writer myself, hearing some sort of feedback from a reader means more to me than an accumulation of numbers. And I always acknowledge feedback of any kind that is accompanied by an address. If the feedback is negative, I try to find out what it was that didn't work. If it's positive, I try to find out if there was anything in particular that worked for that person. Often, though, no matter if the original feedback was positive or negative, there is no further response.

I don't understand not voting. You like votes, right? So why so stingy with yours?

One good way to get feedback (for the threadstarter), is to GIVE feedback.
