How do you decide category?

I just finished my first story. I am having a hard time figuring out which category to place it in. If you pick the wrong one, if and when they place it on the site, will they place it in the correct one?

And also for the Novel section, how long does the story need to be?

Thanks :)

Well, what's it about?

If it isn't obviously romance, science-fiction, BDSM or so on, then it would be in the 'erotic couplings' section. I think if you'd obviously selected the wrong category, it would be put into a more relevant one when published, but not necessarily.

If you feel later that it's gone in the wrong category, you can always send an email to get it changed - there are contact details at the bottom of most pages on the site, I think.

I think that length of short stories or novels is a personal choice. There are some 'novels' in the novel category probably as short as 25,000 words, but there are short stories of that length in other categories. Most of my short stories seem to come in at around 10,000, and I rarely get comments about the length of those stories from readers.

Answers!!!

Look at the kind of story you have written.
From this you should be able to identify which section to place it in.
Good Luck.

Geez

Where's the Cruelty to Categories Association when you need 'em?

I had the category of a story changed by request, when the SF category became available. I read somewhere on the site that the best way to request a change is to submit it as a story but have a title like "Please change" etc and put the request in the body. I think everything that goes up on literotica is examined first, you wouldnt find youself getting puzzled feedback on your cryptic transgender poem 'please change' I think.

Go to; http://literotica.com/stories/index.php

Than look down at "Erotic Stories" and read what follows each category. That will tell you what each category stands for.

If you send it into a wrong category I seriously doubt it will be changed. They take it on face value as how you want a story listed. There are just too many stories coming in for them to read each and every one and change the category if you place it in the wrong one.

I did that unintentionally a few weeks ago and it pretty well bombed. My fault.
