How do people get so many votes

to qualify for the monthly contest?

It requires 50 votes, minimum, correct? And is only eligable the month it is submitted.

Well, I have hundreds of pageviews, but only 7 votes. How do people get so many votes?

I mean, how many stories end up being in contention for the monthly contest?

I often wondered that myself because I have stories with over 30,000 views but only .2% or less voting. On the most recent story I submitted, in late December, the story got posted Jan. 2, and now has about 5,000 views and 33 votes. It is still listed as "new" and should get more. I included a paragraph at the end asking people to vote and express their opinions. I have three PQ and three more comments sent to me. I will be including the same paragraph on oll future stories.

Dear Ube,
Most of us charge only fifty pence to vote for each other's stories. An extra dime guarantees a "5."
Helpfully,
MG

Hmmmm... well, I don't have that much money...

But I WILL give guilt-free cunnilingus for a '5' :D

Ubertroll's memberspage: Lastly, I would greatly appreciate any feedback to what I write, though I would prefer it if you were to have some modicum of proper grammer and tone. I didn't score 800 on my Verbal SATs just to read the sentence "Youz got a tennzy cok, biatch". In fact, if I do read that sentence in a response, to hell with anger management.

Hmm, this may go some way to explaining it. :D

Maybe a pretty picture on your members page might spice things up abit? That way they don't get the impression they are talking to a political machine. ;)

Unless you are in the 4.80s, like me you don't need to worry about it.

The name of your story is Anonymous and you talk about them having a sweaty night.

OK - if I'm looking for a quick "wank" story, and checking out titles and quick story descriptions, I don't know if what you wrote will interest me enough to click. (And most "wankers" don't vote, anyway)

Since you only have two stories so far, you really haven't had enough time to build up a reader base. That will come in time, but you need more submissions and more time on the boards.

Try for nastier title names and wilder descriptions. That will get your stories read more often, and you could also put a little blurb at the end of your stories encouraging people to vote.

Good luck!

I am in the 4.80s.

And I know math. If it averages out that someone spiked a '1' for no good reason, I'll know who to blame... saboteur! :D

And for the record, I'm shooting for the contest to get a Webcam FOR the pictures in my profile :D

So THERE :p

You can have no idea how LITTLE this offer tempts me

I thought I was the only male getting ready to dish out 1s for that comment!

ubertroll,
Careful or you might get your 50 votes. Jk

Serious think for a moment. Your title is not what I would call the best, but that only gets the read not the vote. If you want the vote my little troll you need to finish the story different.
Not trying to be a jerk it just happens that way because I am one. If you could see which stories get the votes you might be surprised at how they end the story.

Personally I do not care. I know that most readers like a finish or at least a cliff hanger, something to complete the story. That is one of the most frequent comments of gratitude in feedback I recieve. These last few sentences with some good feelings can encourage a person to vote. That is not always a good thing to be honest.

Another thing you can do at the end, is mention what a vote does how it will encourage you to write more stories. Or something stupid like that begging for votes.

The other option is post a thread after each story and beg authors to read it so you can get the votes. [laughing] That never happens on the AH.

I would give you my 2 cents but according to math you already owe me 50 pence. :cathappy:

Witers who have built up a fan base have a distinct advantage here. You could very much consider it paying your dues. People with a lot of stories posted have developed a fan base who read most everything they write. That same core of fans usually votes as well. Building such a fan base takes time, you have to be good consitently over several stories before people will begin to look for your new ones and anticipate them.

I don't have enough stories posted to truely have a fan base yet, but because I confine my works to basically one category I do have a few people now who look for my works. In the first two weeks one of mine is out I can generally count on from 50 to 70 votes and in general around 25 feedbacks. This is from the same group of readers, people who for whatever reason enjoy my style of storytelling. Having the votes dosen't neccissarily help always, many of those who read my works are very discerning and at least ten of them don't give 5 votes very often. They also all have an idea of what I can do and if the newest work isn't up to what they believe my standards should be I can count on lower votes from them. So it's a double edged sword as far as winning a contest goes.

If you really want votes you might try the advertisement thread in the story feedback forum. Also becoming a regular here at the Ah may get you some reads from the Ah irregulars as we tend to look at each other's works and you can be sure most of us will vote and feedback for you.
