How do "New" lists work?

You're right, it isn't showing up on the main "new" list. Looks like Laurel may have forgotten to hit an update button somewhere along the line while approving stories. All things going properly, it should be there.

I wouldn't be too concerned, so long as it's still appearing on the new stories list for the category. There seems to be a trend toward those becoming a stronger traffic source than the front page.

Odds are that any low response is purely a result of the story coming out on Sunday. Sunday quite simply sucks.

In the past, when I've been the victim of this unfortunate circumstance, I have seen an unusually large day #2 on Monday. It seems that some readers do come back Monday morning and dig back into the list a little more than usual.

If it remains on the category new list ( meaning, not enough new E&V stories are approved to bump it off ) then that's even better.

One of my stories posted today at about 11:00AM. It shows up on the "new" page for "Exhibitionism / Voyeurism" but doesn't show up on the overall "new" story list. The views and votes are also very low making me wonder if anybody can find my story on this slow day of the week.

How do the new lists work? When do they update?

I've occasionally had the same experience with a story showing up on the category "new" page but not the general page. Usually seems to fix itself within a few hours; I'm guessing there's a separate refresh process for each and they don't run at the same time.

Your story appears to be on the New List now.

I've always been curious about when, and how, new stories get loaded. If it's a night time addition, sometimes it gets loaded onto the Hubris first, and sometimes it gets loaded onto the New List first.

Yep there now. about 9 stories down.

Sometimes the other lists get updated before the main one.

It's an order of the queue thing.

I've noticed that my stories have been read and voted/commented on from the category pages before they appear on the New list.
