How do I use the search to exclude tags. It is so annoying to look through all the stories in a tag . Only to find a good story only to find out that it is gay male. A site this old must have an exclude function for tags.

Look at the sidebar next time and click on the category you want to search tags.

Also, the categories are clearly tagged under the stories synopsis, so stop whining, you fucking homophobe.

How does not wanting to read gay literature make me a homophobe. An exclude feature would make finding a story that I like way easier. I wanted a werewolf only story but I kept getting a werewolf and vampire romance. How is this not a problem for everyone?

We all have "can do" attitudes. :)

A gay male would be able to take responsibility for his own reading and not require the babysitting you seem to need to keep you from going blind on seeing material you can't handle or just backing out of without being damaged.

Anybody want to actually answer the question?

While I see a of replies denigrating the original poster as a homophobe with nothing for evidence except for a simple question about how to exclude a particular topic from a search, I haven’t seen an answer to the question he/she asked.

Does anybody know how to execute a search that includes one or more tags while excluding other tags? Maybe a slightly less controversial example? What if I want to find stories that include the tags ‘student’ and ‘teacher’ but exclude ‘blackmail’ and ‘humiliation’? Right now, I can click on the ‘student’ tag, then on the rights side, find the ‘teacher’ tag, but can’t find a way to exclude the two tax I don’t want. And if I find a story that might fit, the tags are at the end of the story so I have to scroll to the bottom, click the last page and scroll down to find the tags for the story to make sure there aren’t any tags I don’t want.

I checked the post about the Google search and saw how to search for categories “index” but didn’t see anything about tags. I’m not an expert with Google, so maybe I’m just missing something. However, having the functionality built-in to this site would be better.

While I like this site, the limitations in finding stories I like make it my 2nd or 3rd choice right now.

One of the search columns in advance search is a "search this category" checkoff. Just check all of the categories you want included and leave the ones you don't want included unchecked. You won't get many GM stories if you don't check "search all" or the GM category on that list.

But if you melt on encountering a story with a specific content no matter what the search is that you do, I don't think you're adult enough to be using this Web site.

Thank you for the reply, but I think you missed the purpose of this thread. We are trying to find a way to search for certain TAGs while excluding other TAGs. It has nothing to do with Categories. I realize the original poster mentioned “gay male” which is indeed a category, but it wasn’t the basis of the question (at least it didn’t seem to be to me since he/she specifically mentioned tags). For my example, including or excluding categories would have no impact since there are no categories that I could exclude that would help me find the stories I was looking for. There are many other examples I could have listed, but the replies so far in this thread seemed to be focused on calling the original poster homophobic for trying to find stories that didn’t including ‘gay male’ so I listed one of the examples that I thought would actually get answered without somebody trying to label me as something-phobic. Sometimes I’m just looking for stories with or without certain elements, that doesn’t mean I hate people that exhibit those categories. Just like in your reply, you had to post a comment meant to deride the original poster for not wanting to see certain content without any information about why he/she might not want to see that specific content in a particular search. I think it’s a sad state of affairs that somebody gets blasted as being homophobic just because they wish to search for erotic stories that don’t include ‘gay male’ content. I’m sure each of us has certain content they would rather not read about so why is it so important for you to deride the original poster for his/her preferences?

I don’t wish to derail this thread any more than has already happened, so if anybody could please post a response to the original question about excluding tags in searching for stories, I (and I’m sure the original poster as well) would appreciate it. I would also appreciate it (though I’m not holding my breath) if replies could be restricted to just answering the question and not badmouthing any other members here.

I don't do tags and I haven't searched for a story here in years, but the normal way to exclude a term from a search is either:

-subject

or

-(subject1, subject2, subject3)

Which works where depends on the site and database.

One problem with the search here is that The tag search treats the whole search query as a single search term. I’ve tried using a - and NOT and quotes, but it still just searches for the whole thing. There is an advanced search, but that doesn’t search for tags. The only way I’ve found to find stories containing multiple tags is to select one of the tags, then on the page that lists those stories there is a list of additional tags found in those stories on the right hand side below the categories. If you click one of those tags, you’ll get stories with both. You can continue to stack the tags (like an AND search) but there doesn’t seem to be a method of excluding tags, hence the question posted here.

You separate tags with commas not quotation marks or hyphens. Try it. Much better. Much easier. :)
