How do I resubmit?

Sorry, I'm a new member, and I can't find this information anywhere. I had a story rejected because an ambiguity in language made it look like they were underage. (The only menton of age was "When she was fifteen", and I didn't make clear that the later events were considerably after this.) It just takes a couple of extra words to fix it ("Way back when she was fifteen"), but I don't know how to re-submit or edit what I've already submitted.

The submissions screen doesn't have an "edit" option.

I tried submitting a new story of the same name ("Touching Sarah") and it told me in bright red that I couldn't, because I already had one of that name (not ever accepted). If I wanted to look at it, click "here".

So I did click there, and it didn't take me to the story as viewed by visitors, it took me to the submit/edit screen with my original story. So I made my change to that, submitted, and it took it fine, and now calls it pending instead of not ever accepted.

So I _think_ I've fixed it, but this seems a very roundabout and unintuitive way to do it, and isn't explained anywhere. Am I missing an FAQ somewhere?

Thanks in advance,
Rainbow Skin

I think you've fixed it too.

I don't think you missed a FAQ, I don't think your exact situation occurs often enough to make it a "frequently" asked question. ;)

Eslewhere in the FAQs, it does say you can review/edit submissions that are still pending, but It doesn't say anything about the "not ever approved" status.

Your experience will be a help to others who maight encounter this problem. Thanks for taking the time to explain it.

Does this method also work, if you find typos you want to fix in your posted stories?

No, once a story as been posted you need to resubmit the story with a note that it is a correction to an existing story.

You can only preview/edit stories that are not "accepted" and still under the control of the story submission script. Once they're processed into the story database, they're only accessible in a read only mode to anyone except Laurel.

I'm using this method to re-post something I had asked to be withdrawn. I am curious to know whether the number of votes and views will be preserved: they were after it changed to "pending". It did quite well the first time through and I'd be sorry to lose that.

- I've re-edited my story and want to replace the posted version with my new edited one. How do I do this?

Easy! Simply submit the new version as you submitted the old one, only adding the word "EDITED" to the title (ex. "My Sexy Firefighter Ch. 3 - EDITED") so that we know to replace the old text with the new text. We will then replace the original text with the new text. Your story will retain its previous voting score and views.

It will depend on whether the story you asked to withdraw was ever purged from the story database. If it was just tagged as removed then the data on the votes and views are still in the database. If the story was completely purged from the database, the votes and views would have gone with it.

POST STORIES

Gee I though asstr was a bunch of fuss budgetes about nit picking your stories to death. That is the very reason I have not posted on their site.Seems this site is the same.I can understand some guide lines on posting but not to the point of total censorship.I have been looking around this site to decide if I want to post some of my stories and I think it is to much trouble. With all the things you must do to post they may as well write the stories also.

I have six stories totaling 22 chapters posted on another site and have no trouble posting. There rules are give your e mail address and no child porn( Under age 12)Very simple.

PICK UP MAN

I agree pickup, the site is complicated to use and submit stories to. But you're talking about something different, which is rules for what they accept. From what I can see, it's just everybody must be over eighteen. After that, they're cool.

RE SUBMIT STORIES

I may have misunderstood the page i read but it said I would have to get another author to edit my stories and quite a list of othet things.I write stories for the fun of it,I like people to enjoy my stories.I do not need the hassel of to many c9onstraints put on my fun.I agree with NO PEDO.And can understand their CYA policy,it is just all the other things .IE story content, format.another author must edit my stuff and things like that. This is suposed to be fun.

This is the way it works:

1. No one under 18 featured in the story. Sometimes they slip by, but usually Laurel catches them and rejects these stories.

2. Stories with bestiality, rape (as opposed to rape fanatasy where the rapee enjoys it), necrophilia, and snuff are all posted to Allextreme.com, the Extreme link on the stories page. This site does not update frequently and has been causing some authors a great deal of consternation.

3. Paragraphs must be broken down into easier to read blocks of text. Basically, if one paragraph is bigger than the screen, it's not acceptable.

4. The reader should be able to read the text without having to figure out what language it's written in first. (Excepting non-english.)

You don't have to have someone else read it first. You can just submit it. You have the option to have someone else read it first here, though.

I realize that it's supposed to be fun to post stories here, but it should be just as fun to read them. I shouldn't have to wade through piles of junk to get to good stuff. The site gets 400,000 to 500,000 unique hits a day, ya know. That's a lot of potential readers I'd sure hate to annoy.

Standards are not a bad thing.

RULES AND GUIDLINES

I agree there should be some rules.I am very new at writeing stories and do not know all your terms, such as fantasy in rape stories. All I write is fantasy no one in their right mind would realy do the things we write about. Is it not still rape if she enjoys it.I understand you have rules and if I wish to post here I must follow them but it sure sounds like a lot of work.
I do have one more question ,if I post here .How do I send my story in.I was going to post on one site and they had no browser to send it on and the webmaster sent me a nasty e mail saying he was deleting all my e mails as it filled his in box up.I explained to him he could go p up a rope if he thought I was going to type all these stories out in his little box as I had spent months typeing them already.

Meeting Literotica's standards for formatting and legibility aren't all that difficult. It basically amounts to asking you to look over your stories for stupid mistakes that you really don't want your readers to see anyway and observing some basic rules of writing with regards to paragraphs and spelling -- Lit was started to provide a forum for literate erotica and they try to at least maintain the illusion that all of their authors are literate. ;)

Lit's submission page is pretty flexible and will accept an uploaded Text file, MS Word or Rich Text Format documents as well as a text box that will accept copy and paste or drag and drop from most computers -- it depends on your operating system, ISP, Word Processer, and some other stuff. If you're on WebTV they'll even make arrangements for you to submit a story without having to completely retype it.

Submitting anything other than pure text or copy and paste into the text box kills your ability to preview (and make any last minute edits to) your submission and take a bit longer for Laurel to process.

I personally think that any amount of effort required to meet Lit's formatting and content restrictions is worth the prestige of being associated with a site that values literacy as much as it does eroticism.

This FAQ link FAQ will give you a lot of info on common questions asked by new writers.

This Submit link Submit, will also give you answers to frequently asked questions about submitting.
When you post a story, there is a little window you can write your story into, or copy it and then paste your story there. And you can do minor edits there, if you need to.

That is the simple way, but I have found that saving your story as a text file (mystory.txt as an example), you can then send it to Lit in that form. The place for that is right below the copy and paste window. This is best for long stories, because you may not have enough system RAM on your computer to copy and paste a long story into the window.

Just make sure the story is formed the way you want it (paragraphs, punctuation, etc.), before you submit it. This way works best for me. You can also edit small things after you have submitted it, if you notice it doesn't look the way it should. It will show up in that window, when you submit it. But, remember, after it is approved, you will not have access to your story, without resubmitting it again.

If you have areas that will need italics or bold type, you will have to submit in a format in which this is possible, such as MS Word format or RTF text file format. These won't be viewable in the window. That is a text file only view window.

There are no rules on spelling, or punctuation, but it will reflect poorly on you, if your story doesn't have correct spelling and punctuation. Every story may have a couple errors, but if your story is difficult to understand because of this, you won't have much of a reader following.

It is in your best interest to have your story read by someone besides yourself, or maybe an editor. Having a friend read and look for errors can sometimes be a Godsend. It is common for the author not to see some things, when they can be obvious to others.
