How do I remove my stories/poems from LE?

I can't seem to find the answer in the FAQ and it isn't a function on my member control page...

Any help would be appreciated. Thank You.

If you have a bunch to remove, you could send a PM to Laurel and ask her to have them all removed. If you just have a few, refile them with "Delete" in the title line and a request to have them deleted in the "notes" box.

I was afraid of that. Busy person. I PMed her on a technical matter once, I'm still waiting on a reply since October...

I may consider trying this method.

Thanks for the assist.

Are you sure you didn't e-mail rather than PM? They never answer e-mail. (But then, I have a few unanswered PMs too.)

Very easy. If you have several then just submit like a story with the title DELETE ALL. Or add a title for a specific story.

Hmmm.... That seems not to be a sure method. I ran a test "submission" asking for three title deletions. I even included links in the delete request. Still waiting after 72 hours (about the time it's ever taken for a story to get posted). I thought if you included a note, then an actual human looked at the submission as opposed to the automated bots. What's not to believe about my request?

Who's word is more sufficient than mine about where I choose to display my work?

Certainly, according to the FAQ, LE is not claiming any rights under Title 17 other than display with my permission and they seem to imply there is an ease to an author removing their work...

Oh I'm quite sure it was a PM that went unanswered.

Guess I'll try sending a polite PM. It's a shame that one of the site owners has to be bothered for anything that isn't cookie cutter approved. One assumes from all the moderator names that they have help.

Assuming competence is of course absurd. But the site is well established enough that there should be some sort of clearly laid out process and no need to seek high and low for some sort of person with an inkling of how to fulfill a simple request or answer a query.

There is a reason I want to withdraw my work from this site and caprice is not the cause...

It's been Christmas and New Years. They've been swamped. So it may still work out. Don't know what to say. Yes, the documentation on procedures and follow-through here is messy and not too clear and there are all sorts of dead functions that haven't been cleared up. Most eventually get a response, though. You're probably getting your money's worth, though. You might keep that in mind as you work at getting where you want to go.

Well, OK. You've got the answers you can get from the other posters here, though. We don't run this website any more than you do.

The actual process is to go to "submit a story", put the title in the title box with the word DELETE (capital letters) added and in the notes box put PLEASE DELETE. No other boxes need any content.

It worked perfectly for me.

If you are in a legal dispute with the owners of Literotica then that may not work, but removal for any other reason will.

Glad it finally worked out for you. (Might ask because of another thread if this was prompted by an Kindle challenge.)

How To Remove Stories/Poems from Literotica

I have been peeking in from time to time as I finalize my withdrawal from LE. I note that this thread gets a fair amount of views despite not being posted to for a month. That would indicate there is interest in the removal process by several persons.

I thought I would share my experiences in hopes that it will help anyone else who wishes to remove one, several or all pieces of work from Literotica. I examined the site and tried searches to determine the method - to no avail. I then started this thread to try and get some answers on what the process is and how best to go about it. Hopefully this, my final post on this forum, will answer those questions for others and yield a searchable result in future for the curious...
__________

I had, at the beginning of this process, 36 pieces posted on LE. Not as many as some, but no small amount.

It was suggested that removal of one piece at a time might be accomplished by "(refiling) them with "Delete" in the title line and a request to have them deleted in the "notes" box. " That, to me, is no clear instruction. How to refile something by removing the title and substituting 'Delete' is puzzling. If my piece 'Torture by Braille' were retitled 'Delete' how would an editor know which piece I was referring to. They would have to read the piece and then search for matching text. A laborious task for them and clearly unsatisfactory... Perhaps the poster meant I should add the word Delete to the title. They were not clear, nor was it clear if that would be all that is needed.

Another poster offered: "Very easy. If you have several then just submit like a story with the title DELETE ALL. Or add a title for a specific story. " This proved to be very close to the preferred method and my experience with actual requests.

One last piece of advice was to "send a PM to Laurel and ask her to have them all removed." However, this is counter-intuitive. I felt very certain that the Owner/Admin of the site must have functionaries to carry out such things without impinging on her time and it was simply a matter of determining the optimal method so that (undetermined as yet, by me) procedures could be followed and I would be able to get pieces removed from LE in a regulated way that followed the "official" format.
__________

In the end I did PM Laurel and obtained advice on just what the preferred method is. Here is the relevant portion of her reply:

Laurel said:
...First, I want to let you know that you have every right to remove your stories from the site at any time for any reason. ..

For security purposes and to make sure you (as the author) are the one making the removal request, you must follow this procedure: log into your account and create a story titled "REMOVE". In the body of the story, put the names of the submissions you wish removed along with (optionally) the reason for their removal.

If you want all of your work removed, you can make one form with the title "REMOVE ALL" rather than listing every submission....

Story removals are usually done within 4-7 days...

I followed the form required, but...

My request for REMOVE ALL was not processed. The fault may be mine: I submitted urls only. The responding editor asked me to resubmit using titles.

However, I had tried a test run based on advice about submitting a story titled "Delete" and had included 3 urls (no titles). Those works were deleted in the normal "submission" time + about an extra day and a half. Request volume may have been high at that time. Furthermore, I considered, 33 pieces to be deleted might be asking one person to do a fair amount of work.

I settled into using the format supplied by Laurel in order to request removal in batches...

Here is the process with illustrations:

Log in and navigate to your author control panel. Click on Submit > Submit Story and fill in the form.

^ Don't forget to check the box agreeing to terms
^ The preferred title to use is "Remove"
^ "Description" is mandatory: say what it is you are asking for
^ "Category" is mandatory: select any (I always chose the category in which the bulk of my work appeared)
^ "Language" should be selected as the Language in which you posted your work

^ In the Story Text Box enter the Title(s) and URL(s) of the work(s) you wish removed (see "Tips" below)

^ It probably does not matter, but seemed best to me to check the spots to turn off "Voting" and "Public Comments"
^ Restate what it is you are requesting in the "Notes" field - This is important: by adding a note you bypass the automated story posting bot and ensure your request will be viewed by a human being.
__________

Tips:

  • Be polite and professional - as are all the staff here that I have interacted with. They are working for free, deserve respect and are helping you.
  • Supply Titles AND URLs. Some may follow one type of listing better than the other. Also, titles are not unique. There may be more than one piece titled "Hot Stuff" and a URL will help point to the correct version.
  • Multiple deletions are a chore you are asking someone to take on. Submit requests in batches. 5 titles seems to be a good number.
  • Wait for one batch to resolve before submitting another request.
  • If a "Remove" request disappears from your author control panel, yet the titles you asked be deleted remain, simply resubmit the request.
  • If a title has been deleted from your control panel, but your URL still navigates to it, be patient. There is sometimes a server delay. The URL will lead to a blank page within a few more hours.
__________

I hope that this post will be useful and informative.

Thank you to any who may have read my work, commented on it, or given it a vote.

Goodnight LE. Fare thee well.

Thanks for sharing that. Yes, it's a shame that the website doesn't give clear instructions for story removal.
