I see quite a few authors with a photo or photos on their bio page above : Some words from... Can someone explain how I do that?

On your author's profile?

It should give you an option somewhere in the Options section. You upload the picture then it takes maybe 2 days for it to get approved.

HeyAll,
I’ve looked there on several occasions and don’t see a place anywhere to do that. I sometimes wonder if we all have the same member interface. I don’t have the “smoke” or “drink” question boxes either. I’ve been a member for three years now. Any other ideas or suggestions?

RubenR,
Thanks for your suggestion, I think you sent me on the right path, but the following block message popped up:

FifthEstate, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:

Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.

Any other ideas? I really want to get this done, as the photo I’m trying to upload is referenced in the next chapter of my story series, and I don’t want to upload the story till the pic is there.

A quicker option that works for me. Assuming you’re logged into this forum page, along the top click on “Quick Links.” From there after I click on ‘Edit Profile’ along the left hand side of the page it brings up one of the options is ‘Edit Profile Picture.’ That’s what I see.

Alternatively, go to the Literotica.com front page and log into your account. You should see your list of works. From there, if I click on my profile at the top right (I have a picture, so I click on that but there’s also a down arrow there.) Click on that and then select ‘Options’ from the menu it pops up. That’ll allow you to edit your profile information. Near the top, just to the left of your User name, you can click on the box and upload a picture. That’s what I did way back when I joined. But it works the same right now.

You need 100 posts to post a picture on you bio page. Same as for an avatar.

RubenR and PennameWombat,
Thanks for your assistance. Unfortunately, I'm still not able to do it. When I go to the 'Control Panel' 'Settings and Options', I do not get an option for 'Edit Profile Picture'. My choices are only:
'Edit Signature'
'Edit Email & Password'
'Edit Profile'
'Edit Options'
If I click on Edit Profile it takes me to the Edit Email & Password Page (weird huh?). It goes to the same if I click on Edit Email & Password. The Edit Signature takes me to the Edit Signature page. Clicking on the Edit Options page seems to take me to the proper page for editing options, but none of those choices has anything to do with posting pictures/photos.

PennameWombat,
I'm not sure your recommendation addresses what I'm trying to do. When I go to your profile page I see only your avatar photo. But when I go to RubenR's page, he has a secondary picture of a cup of latte with beans scattered around. It's that extra photo I'm trying to post (it's different than his avatar picture. I see lots of authors posting book covers etc. this way, but I don't seem to have access to do it.

As for Zeb Carter's suggestion that author's need 100 posts in Forum, that doesn't make sense as I'm not trying to do anything related to forum activities, this is my normal author profile page that I'm trying to update. I can't imagine there aren't a lot of authors who never post on the forum that don't have secondary pics on their home profile.

More help or thoughts would be greatly appreciate.

For what it's worth, I had the same question and problem and this is what I have learned:

1. There is a difference between your profile picture and your avatar. You can go to your homepage, click on "Options" and you can add your profile picture. I have one.

2. The avatar seems to be unique to these forums. For some reason you can not have one until you have at least 100 posts to the forums. Then you are "rewarded" the "privileged." You will notice I do not have one. Seems sort of arbitrary to me as a relative newby trying to become an active, contributing member of this great community of talented writers, but it seems to be what it is.

I have a hunch it was created as a carrot to get folks to actively participate in the forums years ago. But I don't know what I'm talking about and could be full of shit on that one.

I know a bunch of the wonderful folks who have been on here for a long time can explain the how and why.

LAHomedog,
Thanks for your input but your answer was same as Zeb Carter's. I'm not trying to post a profile picture in my Forum profile, I'm trying to add a secondary photo in my regular Literotica profile above "A few words from FifthEstate. Many authors have pics there, but for whatever reason, I don't seem to have that access.

When I click on 'Private Messages' (Here, where you are when you read this comment, at the right-top of the page)

I get a page with this on the left side of the screen.

Here, you have to click on 'Edit Profile Picture'
RubenR,
Yes I am going to that same spot, but those bottom two options, Edit Avatar, and Edit Profile Picture do not appear on my screen. Clicking again on the Control Panel does not change anything either.

This is what I'm looking to accomplish...well wouldn't everyone lol...

https://www.literotica.com/stories/memberpage.php?uid=1979894&page=bio

So as I think I’ve worked it out... There is an Author’s Page picture, the little icon that appears at the top of your Author’s Page, with your Bio, Bibliography, etc. Set by Options via your homepage (mine is a wombat having a scratch.)

The two options that RubenR describes *are* related to having 100+ Forum posts. One is the Avatar (I just set mine to Alice the Black & Tan dachshund giving me the stare down to get off the computer and give her treats.)

The other is confusingly called the “Profile Picture” and is set per RubenR’s instructions (as is the Avatar.) This appears to be the ‘secondary’ picture that shows up on your Profile (the rather impressively Tyrannosaurus, um, yeah, that in your link.)

Argh! Terminology is confusing. But they are interrelated. News to me today!

In which case, Fifth, you’re out of luck. Get busier posting on the forums.

PennameWombat,
I guess now that might make sense in terms of the connection between forum posts and access to the secondary picture capability. Still not totally sure why it should, but if those are the rules...I just hope i don't spend hours posting another 75 posts only to find out they aren't related. Also my apologies for doubting Zeb Carter for suggesting this before.

Are you sure? I don't believe it, that writers need to be active on the board in order to be able to put up a profile picture for their stories.

That might be if he/she is talking about their author bio.

Then you need 100 post here in the forums to activate those to options.

Once you reach 100 posts you might have to logout and login back in to see them.

The reason is shrouded in the darkness of history. Back when the site was brand shiny new, the space on the server was small, so to insure that new users didn't did take up a lot of space until it was established that they were going to stick around, there was the 100 post rules put into effect to save disk space.

And now that so many users are creating alt after alt then letting them sit here forever without using them but once, it is still a good rule.

RubenR, PennameWombat, and Zeb Carter,
I want to thank you for leading me out of the Literotica darkness. I never would have figured that out on my own. I’m really impressed that you all took the time to help me get there! I have to admit I cheated a little and went to the “What are you listening to now” thread and posted 74 separate posts of some of my all time fav tunes to achieve the number of necessary posts, but sure enough, after I did and logged out and back in, those missing two options “Edit Avatar” and “Edit Profile Picture” underneath Control Panel/Settings & Options now appeared. Mystery solved!!!

I feel a little guilty for having skirted the rules a little and will try to be more active in the Forum moving forward, but that 100 post minimum seems like a very arbitrary measurement tool to achieve some potentially desirable site functionality. How about the fact I’ve posted 35 stories, written over half a million words and never had a story not achieve hot status? But I digress, Zeb your historical background justification helps...
Cheers,
Fifth

It's not about your contribution. It's a site with a twenty year legacy, developed using what was available then. Some readers hadn't been born yet.

Okay, so I'm back in this thread again. I uploaded an "Avatar" photo and also a "Profile Picture". The Avatar loaded and populated immediately, but the "Profile Picture" did not show up in my Public Profile. HeyAll mentioned something about 48 hours before it is approved and published. Can anyone confirm there is an approval delay? Has anyone tried this lately with all the other site issues? If so, how long did it take?

It goes in a queue and Laurel takes a look at them and approves or rejects them based on the rules of the site in the FAQ about pictures.

And it's possible FifthEstate's photo will not be approved for the profile, as the rules on photos here (not strictly enforced) specify no obvious showing of genitals, and Fifth's avatar pushes that. (Did I mention it isn't strictly enforced, though?)
