I see quite a few authors with a photo or photos on their bio page above : Some words from... Can someone explain how I do that?

RubenR and PennameWombat,
Thanks for your assistance. Unfortunately, I'm still not able to do it. When I go to the 'Control Panel' 'Settings and Options', I do not get an option for 'Edit Profile Picture'. My choices are only:
'Edit Signature'
'Edit Email & Password'
'Edit Profile'
'Edit Options'
If I click on Edit Profile it takes me to the Edit Email & Password Page (weird huh?). It goes to the same if I click on Edit Email & Password. The Edit Signature takes me to the Edit Signature page. Clicking on the Edit Options page seems to take me to the proper page for editing options, but none of those choices has anything to do with posting pictures/photos.
PennameWombat,
I'm not sure your recommendation addresses what I'm trying to do. When I go to your profile page I see only your avatar photo. But when I go to RubenR's page, he has a secondary picture of a cup of latte with beans scattered around. It's that extra photo I'm trying to post (it's different than his avatar picture. I see lots of authors posting book covers etc. this way, but I don't seem to have access to do it.
As for Zeb Carter's suggestion that author's need 100 posts in Forum, that doesn't make sense as I'm not trying to do anything related to forum activities, this is my normal author profile page that I'm trying to update. I can't imagine there aren't a lot of authors who never post on the forum that don't have secondary pics on their home profile.
More help or thoughts would be greatly appreciate.

For what it's worth, I had the same question and problem and this is what I have learned:
1. There is a difference between your profile picture and your avatar. You can go to your homepage, click on "Options" and you can add your profile picture. I have one.
2. The avatar seems to be unique to these forums. For some reason you can not have one until you have at least 100 posts to the forums. Then you are "rewarded" the "privileged." You will notice I do not have one. Seems sort of arbitrary to me as a relative newby trying to become an active, contributing member of this great community of talented writers, but it seems to be what it is.
I have a hunch it was created as a carrot to get folks to actively participate in the forums years ago. But I don't know what I'm talking about and could be full of shit on that one.
I know a bunch of the wonderful folks who have been on here for a long time can explain the how and why.

RubenR,When I click on 'Private Messages' (Here, where you are when you read this comment, at the right-top of the page)

I get a page with this on the left side of the screen.

Here, you have to click on 'Edit Profile Picture'
This is what I'm looking to accomplish...well wouldn't everyone lol...

RubenR,
Yes I am going to that same spot, but those bottom two options, Edit Avatar, and Edit Profile Picture do not appear on my screen. Clicking again on the Control Panel does not change anything either.

Are you sure? I don't believe it, that writers need to be active on the board in order to be able to put up a profile picture for their stories.

PennameWombat,
I guess now that might make sense in terms of the connection between forum posts and access to the secondary picture capability. Still not totally sure why it should, but if those are the rules...I just hope i don't spend hours posting another 75 posts only to find out they aren't related. Also my apologies for doubting Zeb Carter for suggesting this before.

RubenR, PennameWombat, and Zeb Carter,So as I think I’ve worked it out... There is an Author’s Page picture, the little icon that appears at the top of your Author’s Page, with your Bio, Bibliography, etc. Set by Options via your homepage (mine is a wombat having a scratch.)
The two options that RubenR describes *are* related to having 100+ Forum posts. One is the Avatar (I just set mine to Alice the Black & Tan dachshund giving me the stare down to get off the computer and give her treats.)
The other is confusingly called the “Profile Picture” and is set per RubenR’s instructions (as is the Avatar.) This appears to be the ‘secondary’ picture that shows up on your Profile (the rather impressively Tyrannosaurus, um, yeah, that in your link.)
Argh! Terminology is confusing. But they are interrelated. News to me today!
In which case, Fifth, you’re out of luck. Get busier posting on the forums.
It's not about your contribution. It's a site with a twenty year legacy, developed using what was available then. Some readers hadn't been born yet.I feel a little guilty for having skirted the rules a little and will try to be more active in the Forum moving forward, but that 100 post minimum seems like a very arbitrary measurement tool to achieve some potentially desirable site functionality. How about the fact I’ve posted 35 stories, written over half a million words and never had a story not achieve hot status? But I digress, Zeb your historical background justification helps...

True. For some reason I wrote "readers" - I could have written "users", but that makes us sound like a bunch of junkies (which I suppose, to some extent, we are).Or writers.
Okay, so I'm back in this thread again. I uploaded an "Avatar" photo and also a "Profile Picture". The Avatar loaded and populated immediately, but the "Profile Picture" did not show up in my Public Profile. HeyAll mentioned something about 48 hours before it is approved and published. Can anyone confirm there is an approval delay? Has anyone tried this lately with all the other site issues? If so, how long did it take?On your author's profile?
It should give you an option somewhere in the Options section. You upload the picture then it takes maybe 2 days for it to get approved.

It goes in a queue and Laurel takes a look at them and approves or rejects them based on the rules of the site in the FAQ about pictures.
