I downloaded a free vpn program. My question for the gurus is how do I know I'm on it?

Do you know your real IP address? If yes, then connect to VPN and go to something like https://www.whatismyip.com

If it shows your original address - something's wrong.
If it shows a different address - you are working through VPN

My extended literotica family is wonderful. Thanks for the tip. It did come up as different.

Also, free VPN's tend to be slower than ones you pay for. So if things slowdown, then you're connected. ;)

And if you use Opera browser, it comes with a VPN built in, of course it only for us with the browser, it will not let your entire machine us it.

I will note, BTW, that not every VPN grant total anonymity. Some of them may "leak" your IP address.
Also there's another problem of your PC exchanging unprotected traffic before VPN comes online and re-routs it. If such thing is important to you - consider opting for a better VPN.

Personally, I use it only to bypass geo-restricted content, and so I merely use browser extension. For a better, more all-around VPN - I heard a lot of good about PrivateInternetAccess (PIA in short).:cattail:

Tunnelbear is also good. Easy to use, and as far as I know they're the only VPN provider who regularly gets an external security audit and publishes the results.

Like you, I mostly use it for bypassing geoblocking.

They WERE good, but then they were bought by the company who is known for keeping logs of their users' traffic, and then selling them to third parties (like ad companies). Even though the official release states that tunnelbear wouldn't do that - there's no trust in them anymore.

You should do your research first before committing to any VPNs. If the VPN provider is based in any of the "14 eyes" countries, that means they are not 100% thrust worthy.

For example, if the authorities requested information about you from your internet source provider than they by law, would NEED to collaborate and give out the data they have on you. Good choices are Nord VPN, CyberGhost or Pure PVN. I myself prefer Nord because they offer extra security features that others do not.

There are servers physically located in bunkers under no-man's land of Gaza strip.... just saying.
