How do i keep my hair straight?

I have curly hair which i blow dry straight.........thing is, as soon as there is even a drop of humidity in the air the waves and curls come back and turn it into a mess!
Any suggestions on how to keep it straight?
Has anyone has their hair chemically straightened?

Okay...I have naturally (very) curly hair and I would like to start by saying...why would you ever straighten your hair. Do you know how many women would kill to have natural curls?!?!?! I spent 4 years battling against my curls. I finally accepted that I have curly hair and now I adore each and every little curly hair on my head. Though, if you do wanna straighten it.....I would not suggest chemically straightning it. It totally strips your hair....it'll be all dry and frizzy and you'll have more split ends than you know what to do with. I would suggest using products like "Frizz-Ease" or "physique". Actually if you go to Physique.com they can suggest which products to use. Basically you have to get a anti-frizz serum and put it in your hair while it is still wet. Then using a big round brush (prefferably vented) blow dry it stright. Before it is totally dry, put some gel in it. Finish drying it and hair spray it. Avoid product made for curly hair because they will promote the re-curling of your hair. You may want to buy one of those self-heating travel brushes or something like that so you can touch up your hair periodically throughout the day. I know what you mean though. One morning I spent 45 min straightning my hair. Then I left for work. I have a 10 min commute to work and by the time I got there....it was all curly again :) If you don't have time to blow dry it in the morning. Use the anti friss serum and some mouse and brush it throughly then make a really tight bun in the back of your head and secure it and let it dry like that. It won't be stick stright but it'll be just wavy when you take it down. Hope this helped.

Why fight the inevitable? I have super straight hair. I wish I had curly hair, but today, I love my hair. Take your hair and find a style that you absolutely love and then go with it. Instead of fighting a losing battle and spending hours on your hair, enjoy an extra 20 minutes of zzzzzs before you start your day. :)

LOL How did i know this would turn into a 'love your curls' thread lol
I just want my hair to stay straight when i straighten it. Just as i like it to stay curly when i wear it curly. It tends to have a mind of it's own either way!
I've pretty much got the blow-drying technique down, it's fighting humidity that's my prob i think.

u guys are so lucky that u can even blow dry ur hair!!!
everyone i meet loves my hair, but...
-i can never brush it while it is dry/drying
-i can never ever let it near a blow dryer or heater or anything, b/c in both instances, it just EXPLODES into a huge ball of fluff...
i've tried straightening irons etc, the only thing that will partially work is an actual clothes iron. and i wouldn't do it chemically, i reckon it'd get boring to have straight hair every single day. curly/messy/frizzy hair is just a part of me and i dont by any means 'love my curls' but accept that nothing can control my hair.

:D anyways, there's always something to complain about (which i'm happy to do), but there's always worse, like not being able to blow dry it for eg, or even not having any...

(ps in my experience hair colour/curliness changes with age and location/climate.)

I myself have unruly hair. If I don't brush it immediately after it gets wet, it curls up into a white-guy afro (as originally pioneered by Einstien).

A few things that I've found help:

Brush it immediately after it gets wet and whenever you have a couple extra minutes. I don't blow dry my hair, since that makes it harder to brush.

You might want to think about getting it cut. My hair generally behaves better when it's shorter.

Hair spray works quite well for me, but you might not like the helmet-hair look. Then again, I'm a guy, so it's acceptable on me.
