How do I group chapters together?

This is really baffling me. It seems so simple, yet I can't figure out how to do it. I considered asking this on the "how to" forum, but that seems to focus more on real-life sex questions, not so much about literotica specifically.

- Looked around the author dashboard
- Searched three faq's
- Looked around the forums
- Googled phrases like "group chapters on literotica"; got group sex stories. Some good ones, but not what I was searching... oh that's nice. Favoriting that. Ohh... erm where was I?

Did you look in the story file to see how others did it?

Saddie Does Topeka Ch. 01: Pete
Saddie Does Topeka Ch. 02: Ted
Saddie Does Topeka Ch. 03: Alice

The title doesn't have many character spaces available, though, so you might not be able to include a chapter title as well as the chapter number. It's the chapter number that has to be included preceded by a set story title. The 01, 02, etc. is necessary so that when you get to 11, the series stays in order.

If you title them as SR has suggested, the site will automatically recognise them as chapters and link them, though it can take a few hours after the story goes up before this happens.

Oh, I see! How'd anyone figure this out, just word of mouth? I genuinely couldn't find the information anywhere.

So if I change the hyphen to a colon, it will fix things?

Anahet Ch. 01 - Mistakes

It isn't until you get to chapter 2 that anything will be linked. I doubt the difference between a colon and a hyphen matters. You need to make sure that the story title is the same for all chapters and you may want to put a comment to the editor on the submission page to point out that it will be a multi-part story.

Then Laurel does the work.

No, as I noted, all you needed to do was look at how they are handled in the story file--by looking at chapter series listed in the story file.

Please forgive my confusion! I feel like I'm missing something obvious.

Here are the two works I published so far:

https://www.literotica.com/stories/memberpage.php?uid=2901104&page=submissions

Anahet Ch. 01 - Mistakes
Anahet Ch. 02 - Choices

Should I re-submit chapter 2 with an editor's note to group the chapters under one heading, as NotWise suggested? I don't understand what's meant by "in the story file." I submit the chapters as plaintext with simple html markup. Do I need to add something to that text file for the automatic grouping to happen?

Since you only have two submissions I can't see what your problem is.

If you look at my long list of submissions (in my signature) you will see that some are in consecutive chapter/part order and shown as a series. Some should be e.g. my Tripletit stories are not all together but that is my fault. I should ask Laurel to retitle them so they are linked but at present I'm not sure that there might be more Tripletit stories between the existing ones.

Edited to add:

If you don't have signatures turned on, here is my list:

Brigit and Brobdingnag show what happens.

The system seems to be reasonably flexible about formatting so I'm a little surprised it didn't recognise the version you've used and auto-chapterify. But evidently it didn't. I think PMing Laurel is your best best; you could retitle to "...Ch. XX: ..." and see if that fixes things, but renames go via Laurel anyway so better off just asking.

By my understanding, OP didn't realise that titling stories that way was enough to get them linked, and was wondering if there was some other step they'd missed.

Those submissions currently aren't linked together as they ought to be for a chapter story. It's easy to navigate from the submissions page, but it means the individual chapters won't have a "next chapter" link as they should do.

I think I see what OP is getting at. It's not just that the chapters be listed together, but that there be an overall title line. Check out Rehnquist's Knox County for an example.

Right! This is what I was getting at. Serial stories display that "Also in this series" box with links to other chapters, so people don't need to visit the submissions page. That's missing from the work I published. I'll include a note to the editor when I submit chapter 3 so they get linked up.

Thank you for the help everyone!
