How can I get more people to read my stories?

I read from someone that they posted a link to their member-page on a Yahoo buletin board...

How, what, where, when, why, and did it work?
Most of my stories have been well received, for the most part, but only one of them has been read over a hundred times...

Any help would be appreciated.

I posted my first story two months before you were registered and it hasn't received one hundred votes yet! Count yourself lucky that many people have voted for you.

Just like anything you want other people to acquire, you need to advertise the product. Post easy links to your stories where people might be looking for them. Ask for feedback on the boards, and tell the world what your story is about. List the category, and put in a paragraph about content when you ask for feedback. Those people who might enjoy the content will click into the story.

Most of all, don't be afraid to toot your own horn. Tell people, when you ask for feedback, WHY they should read your story. Believe me, it works. In just the voting, my average has gone up since I started thinking in terms of self-promotion and marketing.

Don't confuse votes with views or reads.

Less than one percent of those who view your stories will vote on them. I have no idea what the ratio of views to those who actually read your story is. There just is no reliable way to distinguish between "views" and "reads." Someone who opens a story will register as a view. If that same person gets called to the phone and keeps the story open for an hour it might be counted as a "read" (assuming that the site could somehow detect when a page is kept open) but it wouldn't be a true "read" of your story.
