How do I buy panties?

Hey y'all.

I'm a 23 year old student and while I'm not into crossdressing, I do have a huge fantasy of wearing panties and I do tend to wear tight fitting girl jeans.

So I was at the thrift store looking for quirky clothes when I came across a pair of panties laid out in the mens sections. I bought them, but they do not fit. They're too small. And I'm a small skinny guy. I'm a waist size 30.

How do i figure out the right size? How do i convert my mens measurement to womens sizings? And how do I browse the lingerie department at regular stores? I want a better selection. I want lacy slutty dirty whorish panties. I want boyshorts and silky things but I'm far too frightened to browse the lingerie selection. Primarily because every time I go to store like Target, I bump into somebody I know. And even though I buy my tight girl jeans from thrift shops, I'm not sure I trust nor want thrift store underwear..

Any help would be stellar. Thanks y'all.

Well, I wear a lot of men's clothing... size 34/36, which equates to a large women's medium/women's large, or a women's... uhh... around a 16, I guess. I like my clothes really loose fitting, but I buy guy's mediums and wear women's mediums/larges.

I would therefore suggest that firstly, you shop out of town.

Secondly, I'd suggest you pick up some cheap underwear to try for size before going with the expensive fancy stuff. Women's underwear can be cheap... check around in stores like Saan, heck, in the grocery store... Wal-Mart... often they'll have stuff on sale... and buy a few of the sale ones to try out for sizes. You'd probably fit a woman's small or medium but I'm finicky about how things fit, and not all clothes will fit the same... the numbers don't matter so much as how they fit. Your underwear size SHOULD be the same as the woman's pant size you wear... but then, it might not. I don't know, a size 10 or 12, I guess?

Anyway, it's great that you want lacy, frilly, whore panties, but they're expensive. Try a few simple cotton bikini shorts or whatever to get your size and the fit you want down. You want underwear you'll be comfortable in.

Well, presumably you'll want to be comfortable in them, maybe not. And anyway, underwear packages have shiny lables on them with the waist measurements and what that converts to in their underwear brand size, if you just want to go down and grab a package. Then you'd know what you'd fit for the other types.

Just a thought, though, men's clothes do fit differently than womens and though I'd suspect you'd wear a small... size ten, I think... due to the different shapes and feels of things, you might not.

I undergo the temptation occasionally to buy boxers.

Yeah. Don't trust thrift store underwear, though it might work to figure out your sizes too. I liiike thrift stores. Except for undergarments.

Like any other kind of clothing underwear sizes aren't super-standardized - I've got 8s that are big and 9s that are too small. Anything with lycra-blend or microfiber fabric is going to be more forgiving about size. Or maybe better yet, get the kind that tie on the sides like a bikini bottom and you can just tie them to whatever size you want.

I found this which might help :

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/US_standard_clothing_size

It has both men and women's sizes as well as the corresponding measurements.

In Australia (where I am) the general rule is that a womans underwear will be one size larger than her clothing size. For example, I wear size 8 dresses, but my panties are a size 10.

I do not know what your budget is, but guys shopping at Victoria Secrets or Fredericks of Hollywood for their significant other (wink, wink) is not all that uncommon, especially around Valentines Day or other Holidays. I suppose you can do the same thing at other stores such as Macy's or whatever larger department store you have nearby. Shopping at a Target or Wal-Mart is probably OK also and the same story can be used.

If you aren't in a store where you know people (as in out of town like someone above suggested) and anyone asks, you just say you are looking for something nice for your wife or girlfriend. Short of shopping at a true crossdress boutique which carries panties, this is the best option. After a while, you'll be a little less self conscious about it. I remember being so uncomfortable in lingerie stores when I was a bit younger, but now it does not phase me and I do not feel the need to make it obvious I am shopping for a gift for the wife.

As for the sizes, you should be able to eyeball it. And you can do as someone above also suggested by figuring out the size with cheap stuff before going expensive. Or you can try on a female acquaintances to get some idea. Most panties are in the small, medium, large variety also, so you do not need to worry about waist size and numbers like 4, 6, 8, etc. If in doubt, buy a little larger since what you tried was too small. It may not feel as great, but at least it won't cut off your circulation.

In terms of cut, there are lots of lacy boyshort styles out there which are really sexy and femme and they are more accommodating to a guy's anatomy. And yeah, just say they are a pressie for a girl friend. If you want more anonymity, search for 'sissy' (yuck term know) on ebay and you will get lots of choice.

I wear woman panties alot. My waist is 32" and in panties I wear a women's 6 or S/M. I would avoid those that a too low slung in front and it can be difficult to get the right size in thongs to hold everything in well. It just takes a little experimentation to find thongs that work for you. I shop online some and often in person at stores both alone and with my wife. Shopping in person is more "exciting", we love it. When we get home we have a fashion show. We wear the same size so we trade panties. There are companies that make panties just for men "manties" etc.....not the same as wearing women's panties...I like the frilly, lacey, girly panties. Colors and lace. Wearing women's panties is naughty, wearing panties made for men is ......? not the same! We shop at Bali's, Macy's, JC Penny's, and a few adult clothing stores, ie Fantasy Faire, Chocolate Walrus, etc.. the sales people in those stores are used to men wearing women's clothes and panties. They often enjoy heping men try on panties and lingerie. Enjoy your fetish! I know I do...

I'd say a US women's size 6 is probably a pretty good starting place given your size and they styles you mentioned. My guy has worn my panties on occasion, and we've noticed that even though he's quite thin and I'm curvy, many of mine fit him or are even a touch too small due to the extra room needed for his cock and balls. The stretchy, silky ones with good elastic around the waist and a fuller cut (vs. a small bikini or thong) seem to fit him best.

When you're looking at any store, you can grab male clothing first and stash your lingerie selection(s) under that while you continue browsing or go in the dressing room. When you can't do that or encounter someone while you're shopping, the 'present for my girlfriend' explanation will likely work as a great, easy cover story.

At stores like Walmart, Target and discount retailers like Ross and TJ Maxx (which are great places to get really nice panties for $2-4 each!) where the dressing room attendant requires a count of your items before you go in the room, just grab a selection of sizes and styles you like, purchase them without messing with the fitting room, and take them home to try on. You can always say your gf mentioned she wanted some sexy panties but you forgot the size, or she asked you to return them for her if/when you take back the pairs that don't fit. I generally prefer to try things on at home, anyway, so I can really see how they fit and look under better lighting, some of my other clothes and without any time pressure. :)

If you order online or in a catalog, most women's clothing companies have a sizing chart. You can measure yourself and check it against their chart. Most companies sizes differ so if you find a company you like you should stick with it.

Thanks everyone for the help and input.

So...I'm about a waist size of 30 for guys which apparently transfers to a girls size 10. However, I can fit quite comfortably a guys waist size of 28, which translates to a size 8. In fact, right now I'm wearing a pair of tight black girl jeans I bought from my favorite thrift store. The size is 8.

So I figure I'll try two sets of cheap panties to calibrate the correct size. A crappy set of 8's and 10's and we'll see what the deal is.

Then once I get the right sizing, I'll go shopping for some really sexy and edgy panties. I'm thinking something lacy that's black and pink. Maybe even some boyshorts or something with Andy Warhol-esque pop art graphics printed on the crotch? Something to go with the shirt I just bought off of eBay.

No, no, no!

Women's clothing sizes and underwear sizes are two different things. When I was an 8/10, I wore an underwear size 5 or 6. I'd suggest starting with an underwear size 6, and going bigger or smaller from there. Remember that you probably need some extra room for your junk, so you can't go on waist sizes alone.

Women's underwear is commonly sized from 4-12, without skipping any numbers, whereas women's clothing is sized from 2-28+ using even sizes only (juniors uses the odd sizes).

If you buy underwear sized 8 or 10, they will be WAY too HUGE for you, because they're made to fit women who are in the 18/20+ clothing size range.

(I'm purely talking US women's clothing and underwear sizes here, BTW.)

Oi! Danke honig. I think I'd just die without you..

Size 6 it is to start out with. It's Tuesday right? That means it's new music day. So, I'll probably stop by Target on the way home from work tonight, grab a CDs, browse the lingerie section, and see what the score is.

We'll see what happens. I'm anxious now!

Target generally has XS-XL in the way of panties. I wear a M and a size 11. I would suggest starting with a S or M, I think S would fit you better but I don't have an "outie" so I can see how you would need more room. :)

Let us know what you got and how they fit! :D

I dunno...I wouldn't be all that excited about my partner dressing completely (nothing against men who do; like M/M sex, it's just not my thing), but there's something kind of fun about having him wear panties on occasion at least. I'm a lingerie lover, and see the appeal of wearing something soft and silky, as opposed to the more utilitarian boxers or briefs. Silky panties enhance sensation, too.

Thanks for the tip.

Haha. I'm really anxious and excited now! I can't wait to do this. It's going to be so fun.

My advice...

My advice is find a high(er) end dealer of ladies wear or lingerie in your area, go there and just be completely honest. The people who work at these places are knowledeable and helpful. They know about how their products are supposed to fit, if they run smaller or larger, which styles are they best for what you need, and (if you just ask!) will usually give you notification of new products, sales and other special deals.

You will definately pay more for the products you get at one of these locations but you pay for service and quality.

As for having any sort of embarassing sighting or encounter, the folks that work at these places will keep you safe and secure. It is their job to make sure you are pampered. Plus they are generally trained to give you some sort of advice or at least a constructive opinion. BTW, never worry about the sales people at higher end shops. When you work in retail you pretty much see and hear it ALL. You will be nothing new to them.

I speak from experience. I work at a VERY customer oriented dress shop that happens to be in the heart of dixie. Even here were any sort of sexual prefrence (other than getting drunk at football games and scoring afterward) is "taboo" we have quite a few loyal and discreet transgender, crossdressers, and ever full out crazy drag queen customers as well as people like yourself who just want a little extra lace here and there ;)

To tell you the truth, they've always been my favorite and easiest to work with :)

I totally agree with finding a high(er) end lingerie store. VS assumes that you are in there buying a gift for your significant other. You don't have to say anything if you don't want to. If you are that embarrassed, you can always ask for a gift receipt when you check out. Buying women's underwear in Target is definitely begging for curious eyes.

I disagree. Mass merchandisers are larger, shoppers are usually occupied and the employees often are very busy and couldn't care less about who people are or what they're looking at/buying. Contrast that with a small store filled with women where a man will stick out like a sore thumb, customers take their time browsing and employees are supposed to be very attentive.

Putting myself in the secret lingerie-wearing male's shoes, I'd much rather shop at a larger store with more apathetic employees and customers than a smaller store with observant employees and customers.

Personal preference and perspective, I guess. :)

You're probably into cross dressing.
Why? There are plenty of men who enjoy wearing womens panties, but have no desire to wear other womens clothing, makeup, etc. Panties aren't necessarily indicative of, or a gateway to, the desire to dress fully.

I trust the OP knows if he has a desire to go beyond wearing panties and jeans, and you should, too.

It doesn't matter, anyway, as his question is only about panties; he's not asking for an analysis of whether or not he's a crossdresser or about other clothing.
