How did Literotica get started?

Hmm... Manu and I are both into reading, writing, and sex (though not usually at the same time), so we put the site up about a year ago as a fun thing. At first, the site was little more than a handful of stories written by he and I. Eventually, people started to read our stuff and submit their own.
In the very, very beginning, a guy named Mesmer was our biggest contributor (he sent in 10 or 20 stories, which nearly doubled the size of the site!). All of his stories were built around mind-control and hypnosis, which we've since found is a fairly popular (if slightly strange) fetish. Then one day, he wrote to us and said he'd gotten an offer to publish his stories, so could we please take them down. That was a bit of a setback to our story library, but around that same time people like AnonSky, Viper, Bob Peale, Dixon, Sharlann, and others found us and blessed us with their awesome writing.
We starting putting up picture galleries a few months later, as a supplement to the stories. The BB came up in August, and the chat shortly after... It's shocking to us how much the site has grown.. Yesterday I was in 7-11 and picked up the latest issue of Shift magazine and Literotica were listed as one of their Top 10 Stickiest Sex sites, alongside Nerve, Jane's Guide, and other awesome sites. We're having a blast, and we hope, with everyone's help, the site continues to grow for a long time to come...

Actually, since there's only 2 of us running this crazy thing, and a helluva lot of work to do, we kind of unofficially split the duties. Makes no sense for us to both do everything, ya know? He does read the boards (though not as often as I do), but he leaves the posting bits to me - you unlucky people! Maybe I'll talk him into saying hi...

It blows my mind that more people have read my stories in one day here at Literotica than have seen my plays in the last fifteen years. Does this mean the stage is dead? Is the Internet king? Or do my plays just suck?

That is cool. Laurel, have you and manu ever thought about taking on another partner for the workload. This site after all is growing by leaps and bounds. I know I have told several people about this site and a lot of them have told me that they are hooked, and they have told their friends, and so on. I bet as other people tell their friends about it you could probably get a million hit per day by the end of the year.

Laurel I like the "Vergin, Experienced" lables but that "Anoyance" has to go (NOT BRUISER, or Ravenloft, so simalar yet so different, we're haveing too much fun with him, at his expence)
