I've noticed it too.

I think that when all the changes were taking place a couple of months ago that some people were able to sneak in an avatar. However, I think that they have to keep that av until they reach 100 posts.

I was going to ask the same thing a little while ago.

I don't post that much and at this rate I'll not reach 100 posts until 2010.

Now if it was counted by browsing minutes on the site, well I would have earned my little pic way sooner.

I noticed a moderator on another forum who had given himself an AV with only about 10 posts. Of course, he is an "ALT", and moderators can do whatever they want. So, if you see someone with an AV and less than 100 posts, maybe they are a moderator?

And...I'd like to munch on Munachi!
