That would drive me to distraction. Not the bites or the itch, I've always been pretty stoic about enduring temporary discomfort, but the incessant nature of them gets to me eventually.

Ugh. Biting things just love me. I must be extra tasty or something.

Other people can be sitting and enjoying a pleasant evening, totally left alone, whilst I am slapping and scratching. The bites swell into huge welts, too. This year, I am taking an antihistamine before going out to mingle with the black fly and the mosquitos because I have heard it helps reduce the reaction. So far, I'm not sure.

Mosquitoes fly straight past me and bite whoever I'm with. I don't recall ever having a mosquito bite.
Someone said it's my blood type.... I'm B neg. Don't know if that's it.

i love that silly song. can't help myself. it's just the way i'm built.

Wore work boots and fatigues for 10 days. Lower limbs clean of bites. Wrists and neck badly eaten. Plus a case of sunburn.

A bad day(week) fishing is better than a good day(week) at work. Probably 2 weeks for bites to heal completely.

I must be a weak ass southerner. How do locals handle black flies for a month or better? Had to break out bug netting! Pussy!

did you catch anything?

blackflies and skeeters are like women...ignore em and they will go away.

actually, as soon as I hit the bush, a spray of muskol or OFF and I'm pretty much good for the weekend...if you wait till you can't stand them anymore, its too late.

My son worked all last summer mapping bedrock through the bush...keep covered, wear the bug net

did you catch any fish?

Lol, what an idiot.

Ok, genius. You explain it then.
I don't get bitten by mosquitoes. Never have, as far as I can recall.
Midges, yes. Horseflies, yes. But not mosquitoes.
I've heen to just about every tropical country you could think of and never had an issue when everyone around me was slapping away and freaking out.
My Mum is the same. My kids, however, get eaten alive.

Pro bush tip, Skin So Soft or baby oil. Soffucates the bastards. You'll end up a piece of human fly paper with a killer tan, but they work, mostly.
If you're in a really bad area, you need to learn how to drink beer through a bug jacket.

Now the real question...how was the pickeral fishing?

I keep asking that but he isn't answering...knowing where he is from it just might be specs in Algonquin park

Pffffft Algonquin? Once you're North of the French River you start understanding all the legends of pioneer immigrants blowing their heads off instead of living another day of blackfly insanity.

Denny---<-----that's me! The male half

Skin So Soft does work. I never minded smelling like a French whore while in the woods or at the beach.

This thread reminds me of the time my wife and I were in Michigan and sort of discovered a beautiful lonely beach along the lake. A great chance to walk and swim without those other nasty tourists.

We didn't make it to the water! We were attacked by black flies as big as small airplanes.

Another time across from the Federal nude beach on Florida's east coast, we walked down to just watch fisherman coming in and out in small boats.
There we soon discovered why that area was called 'mosquito lagoon'.

They call em bugs because they will bug you! What this world needs are more spiders.

The railway here used to buy skin so soft by the carton for the crews working in the bush

Right now OFF dry in a spray can works really well..no sticky shit on you
