How are "tags" determined or assigned?

I am curious what or who determines what "Tags" are listed for a story.

For the story Never Saw THAT Coming by innyuendo the tags were:

hot wife –
black man –
interracial adultery

But it was about two women, and the husband of one of them. The only reference to someone or something being black is the strap-on dildo used by one of the women on the other.

????

Tags are chosen by the author.

Sometimes Laurel ( who approves all the stories ) will add or modify some tags, but this doesn't seem to be something that happens all that often.

In the case of older stories ( 2006-ish and earlier ) I seem to remember that if you didn't create tags, the system would automatically generate some from the beginning of the story. Naturally, those tags are probably head-scratchers.

thank you, I guess my next questions should be to the author who chose tags that did not match the text.

Yes, but if the author doesn't set their own tags the story bot does. Often they are a bit silly.
I am now even more confused.
The author can choose their own tags, but if they don't the story bot will do it for them? And the consensus is the story bot 's choices are 1) a bit silly or 2) are probably head scratchers.
So why have the story bots do it if they such a terrible job?

I know, I know, that is a question for Laurel who stays behind the curtain with the Wizard.

There's a lot of redundant tags in use if you look, too. Variations on a theme that lodge in the system as separate things. What I did for my story was to look over the main list (http://tags.literotica.com/), pick out the ones I thought fit, and if there were multiple tags that meant the same thing I compared the number of stories using each and went with whichever one was used more.

It is nice though, to not be tied to a static list of tags in case a story has something a little off-the-wall.
