How about calling it the Mother Thread instead?

I keep getting an image of Grover from Sesame Street when I hear "monster thread". I know, I know. I am just as guilty of using that term too. But I suggest, before the term "Monster" gets too stuck in our heads, that we change it to something positive.
Monster sounds so daunting and ovewhelming. Mother sounds like exactly the place I would want to go.

What do ya think? Am I off my rocker or do I make sense?

You make so much sense!!!!!

Yes, a great idea, IMHO. It has been niggling at the back of my tired little mind that we are calling it the "monster thread."

Great idea.

I'm a guy, and I call myself The Beast, so take it for what it's worth, but for most guys, "Monster" is a term of affection for something big and important. Take a look at that wall in that ball park, "The Green Monster", for just one example. (if I were awake, I'd remember the ballpark).

We save that word for the things that are special, that we want to remember. And as a challenge.

So, in addition to looking at the negative connotations, look also at the spirit in which it is meant. That big bugger is intimidating. But without it, we wouldn't have this whole Forum, where we could tackle things in more palatable chunks.

When I call it The Monster, it's a term of affection. :D

No matter how affectionate you are feeling about the thread, continuing reference to the thread (which is not actually THAT hard to wade through if eaten one bite at a time!) as a monster reminds the newer folks that it really is just too huge to bother even looking at.

A "monter truck" is one that can tear things up and cause damage when the owner deems "necessary". A "monster booger" is one that is huge and scary to view coming forth on the tissue or (gasp!) the finger. A "monster dog" would be one that could eat you. A "monster load of dishes" would be one that one would be afraid to begin doing because you would not know where to start.

Monster does mean intimidating. And too big to bother with.

And it seems that I have already seen that stated by a couple here. It seems an injustice. Of course, this is my opinion only.

You'll notice, I've stopped using "Monster Thread". I'll always think of it that way; the "Monster Truck" that plwed its way into the hearts and minds (and pants) of quite a few of us.

<shrug>

I suppose you're right, I went through the whole thing again looking for Switch-related quotes, and it only took me a couple of hours.

I also feel kind of affectionate about it because I was the last one to post there before it got locked up; If i'd known, I'd have left something a little more pithy there.

But "Mother Thread?"

I'm blushing at typing the words. Mind you, I blush pretty easy. I'd probably be a lot of fun for someone who was into humiliation, with this blush-factor. They'd always know when they got to me.

In the absence of a better idea, I'm on board with it, though.

LOL--I keep thinking "Mother Ship" from "Alien" Parts 1, 2, and 3 (there was a 4 too, right?). Of course, since I never had anyone to call "Mother" IRL, I suppose my POV is a bit different.
